I was born in Louisville
Kentucky on September 23, 1978. I have been interested in
music since a very early age. I had an older brother and
sister and I would always go and steal all of their tapes and
listen to their albums. I really got into bands like The
Police, Dire Straits, The Outfield, and Genesis. I also was
exposed to classic country by my dad. I would listen to
artists like Willie Nelson, The Sons of the Pioneers, and
Johnny Cash. My mom had played piano and my dad had played
guitar but I never really got into playing any instrument. In
middle school I joined the school band and played the alto
saxophone. Once out of middle school I quit the band since my
high school did not have a band. It was not until college that
I discovered the guitar.
My freshman year in college
I heard the Dave Matthews Band for the first time. I was
completely awed by how talented they were and I became a huge
fan. During that time I joined the Sigma Chi fraternity at
Eastern Kentucky University and met my good friend
Joey Police. He along with
Deuce Towe, who was in the
Kappa Alpha fraternity, played Guitar together and played in
the bars in town. They were billed as a Dave Matthews and Tim
Reynolds Tribute. Soon after I watched them play for the first
time in a club, I discovered my dads’ old Yamaha acoustic
guitar in the closet. I played it for the first time and was
hooked. I immediately went out and bought a DMB tab book and
started to learn DMB songs. I asked Joey to teach me all that
he knew and practically drove him insane to let me practice
with him. Eventually, I knew the songs well enough that I was
able to sit in on a few songs during Joey and Deuces’ gigs. I
actually was horrible! I knew the chords of the songs but had
no rhythm at all. I think Joey just let me play with him to be
nice. I kept practicing and eventually started to play at open
mic nights at some of the local college bars.
Now I am working as an
airline pilot for Continental Express Airlines and am based
out of Houston Texas. I still live in Louisville and have just
begun playing at small coffee shops and small bars in the
Louisville area on my off days. Currently I am working on some
original songs and my goal is to put together a CD in the near
future.
