Christine Crowley, Celtic Fiddler

BIOGRAPHY: Christine Crowley is a celtic fiddler from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She is 13 years old and has found her way into the fiddling industry. Her determination and natural ability for the music has made her a remarkable fiddler in an astonishing short period of time. Christine grew up surrounded by celtic music, so it was no surprise when she started playing herself in May, 2002. Christine first taught herself to play the fiddle. She decided she wanted to play, so she had a friend fix up her grandfathers fiddle, locked herself in her room and taught herself to play Baa Baa Black Sheep and a little bit of a traditional tune. She has taken fiddle courses and workshops during the past year, including going to the Gaelic College this summer, so she has had many different teachers including; Dara Smith, Bonnie Jean MacDonald, Dawn Beaton , Glenn Graham, Eddy Rogers and Sandy MacIntrye. Christine played her first concert when she was only playing for a month and a half and has been playing here and there since. She has performed live on 101.5 The Hawk radio station and is a member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers, and the Celtic band Cluich. She has been taped by CBC for the T.V special "A Day In the Life of Canada," which was aired nationaly Sept 29th. A DVD of this special will be released soon. She was also interviewed by CBC Radio 93.9, following her performance at the 2003, St.Ann's Festival of Scottish Fiddling, which aired Aug.18th,2003. Her music has been recorded on school cd's too, and she was recorded on the live C.D, Cape Breton's Idols! Christine plays piano and she received an award for "Most Outstanding Piano Student," while attending the Gaelic College. Fiddle and piano are not her only talents, Christine also stepdances and likes to pick up the guitar from time to time. She is an active singer in the school choir and played the flute, with the school band. Christine also plays basketball, volleyball, soccer, and horsebackrides. Christine catches her audiences attention with her lively tunes and stomping feet. She is a dedicated musician and loves what she does!
