Order George's new singleSplit Personality Welcome to my new site, I hope you enjoy reading and listening to information about Boy George and Culture club. I have pictures to look at and midi files to listen to. I hope you enjoy. I will start with the biography of Culture Club. The band formed in the early eighties and comprised of Boy George(born George Alan O'Dowd on June 14, 1961 in Elthem, Kent, England and does the vocals), Roy Hay(born August 12 1961 in Southend-on-Sea. Essex, England and plays guitar and keyboards), Mikey Craig(born February 15 1960, Hammersmith, London, England, plays bass) and Jon Moss (born September 11 1957 in Wandsworth London, England and he plays the drums) Zee Asher(born April 1 in Hammersmith,London, sings. The band formed in 1981 after George was djing at a night club. Before Culture Club, George was with Bow Wow Wow for a very short period and he was called Lieutenant Lush and he also played alongside Craig in the Sex Gang Children. The older drummer Jon Moss was the most experienced as he already appeared with London, the Damned and Adam Ant. After failing an audition with EMI Records, Culture Club had signed on to Virgin Records in the spring of 1982, and released a couple of songs like White Boy and I'm Afraid Of Me. As of Autumn of that year, the band was was the most popular new act of the country. Do You Really Want To Hurt me became number one in the UK. Time(Clock of the heart) became a chart-topper. Kissing To Be Clever climbed into the US charts as one of the top 20. Suddenley Culture Club became one of the most popular bands in the world. Church of the Poison Mind with Helen Terry on counter vocals with George brought them to another number 2 hit. The band reached their peak later in the year with the release of the magical "Karma Chameleon" song which had topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic ocean sold a million copies. The second album that came out was Colour by Numbers was another UK number one hit and was kept off the top of USA charts because of Michael Jackson's Thriller. The hype was maintained between 1983-1984 with singles such as victims, and It's a Miricle. The war song hit number 2 but was criticized for it's simplistic politicizing. the media-conscious singer had signed a Faustian pac with Fleet Street, that led to his downfall in 1986. He confessed that he was a heroin addict, he was persecuted by the press and was then arrested for possession of cannabis. In 1987 he apppeared on a chat show called Wagon and declaired he was cured. News said that Culture Club no longer existed. Later he became a Leading DJ and solo singer, later Culture Club reformed in 1998, with the reggae ballad "I Just Want To Be Loved" debuting at number 4 in the UK singles chart that October.
