She Said

Based on "She Said, She Said" (1966)
New lyrics written Wednesday, October 15, 2003 @ 5:16 a.m.

She said,
"I wish that I had some more bread,
'cause I feel so damn underfed.
And it's been such a long time I've able to score."

I said,
"Why do you've got bread on your mind?
I've got something better of mine.
Have a brownie or two, now, and you'll want some more."

She said, "You don't know what I'm going through,
and the hell I live along.
When life was a joy,
things were all alright, things were all alright."

I said,
"Brownies are from bak'ries, ya know.
But with just a little more dough,
I've got a collection of brownies to eat."

She said, "You won't understand what I need?"
I said, "Brownies all along.
When I was a boy,
they would set me right; they can set you right."

She said,
"Even though my interest is piqued,
can I surely be guaranteed,
the brownies you speak of won't put me to sleep?"

She said, (She said,)
"I know what it's like to be fed,"
(I know what it's like to be fed,)
"hopefully the hunger is dead,"
(hopefully the hunger is dead,)
"I'll just eat the brownies in bed."
