Nick walked up the walkway to her front door. He ran his tongue across his front teeth, out of habit of course. He rang the doorbell and waited for her to answer the door. He could see the shadow of her full figure walking towards him through the glass. She opened the door as her thick, brown hair fell over one shoulder. Nick walked inside. “Hey, baby. Are you ready to go?”
“Almost” She answered coolly “Just have a seat on the couch and wait for me. I’ll be done in about five minutes.” She gave him a peck on the cheek and walked back down the hallway. He wondered around her den, taking in all of his surroundings. She had many pictures on her walls. Many of her friends, and her family, but one in particular caught his attention. It was a picture of the two of them. A picture that they had asked a stranger on the beach to take for them. He loved that picture. Her eyes were as cool as ice…... “I’m ready.” She called walking around the corner. They walked out of the door as she shut and locked it behind them. Nick closed the car door behind Bonnie and walked over to the driver’s side of the Corvette. He cranked up the car as Chevelle’s “The Red” blared through the speakers. That was his favorite song. Sort of his theme song. They rode down the road with the windows down, the cool breeze combing through their hair. Shortly they had reached their destination. Nick got out of the car and walked around to Bonnie’s side of the car to open her door. He held out his arm as she laid a hand on his elbow and they walked inside to have dinner.
They walked along the sandy dunes as the ocean water tickled their toes. The moonlight shone down and emphasized Bonnie’s soft features and Nick stared at her in awe. “Bonnie” He stopped the two of them in the middle of the suds holding her by the shoulders. “I love you. I love you with all my heart…” She stared into his deep blue eyes. “I love you too Nick…” “I’ve never loved anyone the same way that I love you. I want to be with you for forever…” He tilted his head as he leaned in to kiss her.
Bonnie deepened the kiss as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He moved his arms around her waist as he took her small body into his arms and placed her body onto the sand. He deepened the kiss even more as Bonnie moved her hands and entangled her fingers in his short blond hair. She moaned as he trailed his kisses down her cheek and down to her jaw line. He focused his energy on her. Just her. Then just as he moved down to her neck he had to fight the strongest urge that he’d ever had before. Nick quickly jumped up from the ground running his hands over his mouth….. “Oh my God…Bonnie…I’ve gotta go….. I’m so sorry…..I can’t stay here anymore…..I’m sorry..” He laid $30.00 down on the ground beside her “Please…..don’t be mad….Get a cab and go home, please…...I’m so sorry…” he ran off in the direction that they had been walking. Bonnie pulled herself off of the ground, wiped the sand off of her dress and walked in the other direction.
Bonnie walked to across her living room to answer he ringing door bell. She opened the door to reveal Nick standing on the other side with pink dozen white roses. Nick looked into Bonnie’s sad eyes. “Baby I’m sorry…” Nick apologized. “Well maybe it would have been okay if I had heard from you in the past four days.” She lowered her eyes to the ground and walked over to her couch leaving the door opened for him to enter. He laid the roses on the table beside her as he sat down in a chair across from her.
“Baby I really am sorry. And there is a reason for me leaving like that……….I just can’t tell you what it is…” He lowered his head in shame “I’m just so confused……I don’t know what to do.” She looked into his eyes and she could see it all over his face. He really was confused. Maybe she should just hear him out and give him a chance before she gets too mad. She waited for a response from him but got nothing. She reached over and lifter his face on the same level as hers. “Nick, what’s wrong?” I don’t like this. What can’t you tell me? Why can’t you tell me?”
“Because I hate it. I can’t deal with it. All of these feelings are mixing up inside of me and it feels so right. Everything that we have. It feels so good to me…..It just defies the rules that I have to live by. I want you and I want everything that we have together……I…. I don’t know Bonnie………I just can’t do it.” He walked over to the other side of the room and looked at the waves roll onto the sand. He had always wanted to live on the beach and had always told Bonnie that she was very lucky because she did. But he was beginning to think that she wasn’t so lucky anymore. How could she get stuck with something as unfortunate as him? It wasn’t his fault that he was in this situation.
“Bonnie……You already know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you….only you. But if we got married it would never be like that.” “Why Nick, what’s wrong with me?” “Nothing baby. There’s not a thing wrong with you. It’s all me.” Nick thought before finished his confession. Well Nick, it’s now or never. If she’s ever gonna find out, now is the time.
“Baby, sit down” Nick took her hand and lead her to the couch before he sat down beside her. “I’ve got to tell you. I can’t do this anymore and If I loose you then at least you know.” He took a deep breath, looking at the carpet in her living room. Then he revealed his secret. “Bonnie, I’m a vampire… I’ve been a vampire for the past sixteen years.” He stopped and looked into her eyes expecting to se a look of sheer terror, but all he saw was her innocence.
“That’s why we can’t be together I love you so much and couldn’t stand loosing you but I’ll be here forever…and I can’t see you go.” Tears began to fill his eyes as he could see the pain in her face. “I hate so much to have to leave you but either way I go…. It’s going to happen And it hurts me so much to know that. She looked down at the carpet for a second before she leaned over and kissed his lips. She pulled away and stared deep into his eyes. “ Nick, I hate that too….. I couldn’t ever think of me leaving you. I can’t picture myself with out you. And I know you don’t want to loose me…” Her eyes stayed on the dark blue carpet in her den. “So make me one of you. I can live forever with you.”
Nick felt his heart drop down to his feet. “No Nick. I want it too. Please. Make me one of you…” She leaned over and placed her neck before his face. Her sweet scent filled his nose overtaking all of his senses as he tried to overcome her unusually strong humanly powers. He turned his head away and then brought his eyes back to hers. “I can’t put you through this. It’s horrible. I –“ She places her finger over his lips and brought his head back down towards her neck. “I told you that I wanted it.” Nick slowly and lovingly sunk his sharp teeth into her soft flesh finally giving them both what they wanted and making her one of him forever.
