My Virtual Jukebox Project

This project came out of the love of music and my parents listenining to country music all the time when i was a child. I also built this project because of my wife always saying "I wish i could play some of your cd's but you keep them in the back room in cases and i can't find what i'am looking for".

My father was a jack of all trades and taught me alot about everything you could do in a garage with skill, pride, ownership and accomplishment. My mother taught me what a woman has to put up with a father like mine. This site is dedicated to my late parents Bill & Cathryn Roach for country and 50's & 60's music, my brother David for 60's  and 70's rock and to my father-inlaw Darrel Caudill for bluegrass. Thanks for the Music!

The jukebox will be full size floor standing 64"h x 42"w x 24"d self contained with: 17" montitor(expandable), AMD k6-2 500mhz processor & mother board(may upgrade later), 180gig h/d, cd burner/dvd player, 3 way speaker (2) 12" woofers all with crossovers, ups backup, commercial amp, lighting & Virtual Jukebox Software (great program).

After hours and months of converting music between a couple of collections this is what i have come up with so far to play all of the music that i have in mp3.

The first concept drawing of the jukebox i put alot of thought in this design for functionality.  This is a list of features i wanted to incorporate into the jukebox:  1. Full Size floor standing Jukebox.  2. Wide enough for 2 12" woofers for stereo bass and the speakers tilted up to get the bass off the floor.  3.  Midrange & tweeeters as far apart as possible for stereo seperation.  4. Screen area large enough for later updating to a larger screen.  Full cabinet size for optimum viewing height and button panel at somewhat of a comfortable height.  5. Area for adding lighting effects.

This is a second concept drawing i did just to see what it would look like in color. Of coarse after doing some of the drawing and building there is some things i would change if i was to do it over, but i really didn't envision everything. With designing there is always change. When i first started with the project i thought of alot of different designs but i always came back to what i envisioned first. This concept drawing does'nt show the potential of what i have later come up with. This jukebox will either be painted on the outside or veneered with cherry, like the old jukeboxes and then have a art deco theme with mirror, chrome, accent lighting and light system.

This shows alot of what i listed above on what i had envisioned, top left and right columns house the midrange and tweeter, opening at the top center is for a remote control system. The opening below the monitor opening is for the button panel and hidden keyboard drawer, Lower portion of the columns for lighting.

The center section area has been desighned to be at a comfortable hieght for entering song selections. There's a reason for the center section to be this size, button clearance and clearance for the mini keyboard to slide in and out. On each side of the keyboard drawer opening these areas will be used for cd burner/dvd player and the other side for any ports usb etc. for updating software or adding music.
