Adib Samaan was born in Cairo,
Egypt in 1957. His study of the Oud started when
his older brother gave him an Oud at the age of
twelve. After hededicated himself to the study of
the Oud and after one year, his talent was
evident. He also studies the Violin and
Classical Guitar.
While studying at Ain Shams University in
Egypt, Adib entered into an Oud contest in
his first year of study. He was awarded
first place out of the many participants. In a
contest held for amateur Oudist from around the
word, he was awarded second place. What sets
Adib apart from many Oudist is his
ability in Takassim. He has been
compared to such masters as Farid el-Atrache,
Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Riad el-Sunbati, and
Mohammed el-Qasabji . He has also played
in the Egyptian Orchestra under the direction of
the renowned Salim Sehab.
Today Adib has over thirty years of
experience as a professional Oudist. He is
currently visiting Egypt right now, but when in
the U.S., he is in the Philadelphia area.. |
