Adib Samaan was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1957. His study of the Oud started when his older brother gave him an Oud at the age of twelve. Adib dedicated himself to the study of the Oud and after one year, his talent was evident. It was in this time that Adib also started his study of Violin and Classical Guitar.
While studying at Ain Shams University in Egypt, Mr. Samaan entered into an Oud contest in his first year of study. Adib Samaan was awarded first place out of the many participants. In a contest held for amateur Oudist from around the word, Adib was awarded second place. What sets Adib Samaan apart from many Oudist is his ability in Takassim. Adib Samaan has been compared to such masters as Farid el-Atrache, Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Riad el-Sunbati, and Mohammed el-Qasabji . Mr. Samaan has also played in the Egyptain Orchestra under the direction of the renowned Salim Sehab.
Today Adib Shamaan has over thirty years of experience as a professional Oudist. He currently lives in Philadelphia where he performs and teaches regularly on the Oud and Violin.
