Surveillance Program
A special West Nile virus surveillance program has been initiated in 49
states, five cities, and the District of Columbia. See the Epidemic/Epizootic
West Nile Virus in the United States: Revised Guidelines for Surveillance,
Prevention, and Control, 2001 (286 KB, 111 pages) for a full description.
Data are being collected on a weekly basis and are reported for the following
five categories: wild birds, sentinel chicken flocks, human cases, veterinary
cases, and mosquito surveillance.
