DETROIT -- General Motors is making a major push this fall to whet
drivers' appetites for what could become the next big thing in automotive
entertainment: satellite radio. SATELLITE SIGNALS What it is: Two companies
each beam 100 channels of radio programming to listeners via orbiting
satellites. Vehicles equipped with special receivers pick up the signal.
How it was created: In 1997, the FCC auctioned off a portion of the radio
spectrum. The players: XM Satellite Radio Inc. and Sirius Satellite Radio
Inc. Ticker symbols: XMSR, SIRI Automotive investors: XM - General Motors,
Honda; Sirius - DaimlerChrysler What's offered: Numerous music formats,
