As the lights dimmed, Deanie began to play...and Patty walked out right behind her and began to hum...It was the intro to "Nothing Like Lonely", off of the new cd. The song was a great uptempo number and Patty did a killer job on it.
I didn't bother writing down the set list (I dont know why, guess I was excited) I remember everything she sang, just not the order, lol. She surprised us by doing a few old tunes like, "Don't Toss Us Away" and "Timber I'm Falling in love". It was wonderful to hear "Dont Toss Us Away". She had to strain her voice a tad bit during the song, but it still sounded amazing.
In my personal opinion, the best part of the show was hearing, "On Your Way Home" live. It's simply a beautiful song as it is, and her voice is just amazing. It did, however, provide myself and a few friends a few laughs as Patty forgot a few words to the song both shows, and did a few lines incorrectly. However, my favorite part is the very last verse- in which she sounded absolutely amazing on! She also did "Lovin All Night", the new single. She can really get into this song! Patty really was all over the stage during the song. She gave it her all, and it showed. The other amazing moment in the show was to hear "You Don't Even Know Who I Am" live once again. I know for a fact that I've never heard her sing this song with so much heartfelt emotion and power as she did this night. I know it made me cry!
The Bluegrass set was also amazing. She did the same in the set for both shows, with the slight change of in the first show she sang "Rise Up Lazarus" (which was awesome, even though she repeated a verse twice!), and the second she swapped to "Daniel Prayed". Other songs in the Bluegrass set included "The Boys are Back In Town", "Pretty Little Miss" and OF COURSE "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive", which naturally she nailed. The music was a tad bit different, but Patty's voice was simply flawless! She, as usual, dedicated the song to her late father and his coal mining friends. During the Bluegrass section in each show, Patty made a mention of the passing of June Carter Cash, and how much the Music world will miss her, which was really nice of her
As usual, the band has changed- but not just slightly. I was very surprised to see so many new faces! Carmella Ramsey was unable to attend- and has decided to spend her summer taking care of her children. Taking her place was a lady named Becky Priest, whom I thought was simply great! She was extremely talented- taking Carmella's place as well as Joey's place, and playing the keyboards! She's one very talented young lady! There was also a new steel guitar player, and guitar player in which I DID NOT catch the names of- I was a little surprised to see that Pete was no longer in the band! I know that I sure will miss him!
Also included in the set list was "Here I Am". As usual- it was one of the night's highlight's. You just haven't quite heard real music until you've heard the beauty of Patty's voice matched with the amazing talents of Deanie's playing. During the second show, however, they changed to 'Nothing But the Wheel" and also had an encore of "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye".
Patty was pretty energetic during both shows, and was also pretty talkative. She mentioned that her mother in law, Christie, was there, which I was pretty excited about being as I like Emory a lot! One thing that I thought was pretty cute was her introduction to "Try to Think About Elvis' during the second show- she preceded to talk about how much she loved Elvis as a child...and said she liked him so much she decided to go and marry his bass player!
