I arrived at the Gardens at 10:00 am. Patty was scheduled to be on at 7:30, with gates opening at 6. I sat my butt outside the stage gate area and waited...and waited. LOL. After a very long time, I was informed the gate line would have to be outside, because the Gardens were going to close at 5:00. So I went outside and found my friends Anita and Rhett and we walked around for a bit, searching the place. I had made some good friends with nice employees there, lol, so the one lady let us stay and watch soundcheck. Patty did three songs in her soundcheck.
When the gates open, we sent Rhett running and scored VERY front row, center. After chatting forever, a opening act came out. We were not informed there was an opening act- so we were kinda irritated, lol. About 8:30, Deanie began to play the fiddle...and we all went nuts. Patty came out moments later and began to hum the opening to "Nothin' Like the Lonely". Being as that is so far my favorite new Patty song, I was MORE than thrilled to hear her do it. She came out extremely refreshed, and her voice was damn near perfect. I was so impressed with her. About three songs into her set, it was more than obvious that the crowd was not nearly as appreciative of Patty as they should have been. There was a huge lack of cheer and applause. We were quite disappointed to see such a lack of appreciation for her! Patty told the crowd, "Well get excited, would you!?". It was clear she could tell their lack of enthusiasm. She watched us quite closely during the show- we figured she was glad to see someone was enjoying themselves!
She mixed in some old tunes with new tunes, as she has been doing. This show she also did "Timber" and "Don't Toss Us Away". I was in awe of "Don't Toss Us Away" because she did not miss one note. They did "Halfway Down", which is becoming SUCH A treat- Jedd has by far the most awesome intro. I was always a big fan of Deanie's intro to 'Here I Am'- but Im very very impressed with Jedd's "Halfway Down" intro. She also did "On Your Way Home" and "Lovin All Night", which she got every single lyric right- and nailed each song. Aside from "Nothing Like the Lonely", the other highlight was "You Don't Even Know Who I Am"- which never seems to sound flawless!!! She had so much fun onstage during "Lovin All Night", she was dancin all over the place. They did their bluegrass set, which remains to be 4 songs- this time "Boys", "Daniel Prayed", "Harlan", and "Pretty Little Miss".
They had the same band as Renfro Valley. Deanie Richardson on fiddle and mando, Becky Priest (who just got a record deal! Congrats to Becky!) on keyboards, fiddle, mando, Jedd Hughes on guitar (who never miss a lick!), Travis Toy on steel guitar (who not only provided so much fun to the show, he played the heck out of that guitar!) , Martin Parker on Drums, Jimmy Johnson on bass, Garry Murray on guitar and vocals (not to mention he's quite a cute addition to the band!). Patty said she had an all star band, and she was right. They busted their butts to make a great show and they did a wonderful job, I was so impressed with all of them.
encore's consisted of "Nothin But the Wheel", and "I'm That Kind of Girl". I was extremely sad to see her go. She put on a hell of a show, and I wanted her to stay all night. I cannot wait until the next show!!
