Biography.

Now for a history lesson for all you deprived people out there. The Stereophonic lads were all born within a mile from each other, in the village of Cwmaman, in South Wales. Kelly and Stuart were originally in a band together, when they were in their teens. They were called the Tragic Love Company. Then they pursuaded Richard to join their band, as Kelly and Stuart described Richard as "The Coolest F***** In Town".
The lads used Stuarts bedroom to practice in. They didn't write their own music, they just used to cover other bands work. They didn't really get anywhere with Tragic Love Company. Then Kelly started to write his own lyrics, and music. Kelly words were so good, that after years of composing, performing in small places, and perfecting their act, they became The Stereophonics, and landed themselves a a record deal with V2. Even though Richard Bransons Virgin label had not really taken off, they were signed none the less.
Their first ablum released on their new V2 label was : Word Gets Around, and it entered the charts at number 6 in 1997. The album didn't really do as well as the other albums, but even so the album wasn't far off reaching double platinum. They had 5 singles released from the album which were:
  • Looks Like Chaplin - November 1996
  • Local Boy In The Photograph - March 1997 chart position 51
  • More Life In A Tramps Vest - May 1997 chart position 33
  • A Thousand Trees - 11th August 1997 chart position 22
  • Traffic - 27th October 1997 chart position 20
  • Local Boy In The Photograph - re-released 9th February 1998 chart position 14
