::TRACK BY TRACK::
The following are things that Human Nature have directly quoted about their songs.
Some comments were taken from HNHQ (Human Nature Head Quarters - the official site), which is now no longer in existence. Others were taken from the official sony site - where as far as I know, they have also been deleted. Others can be found on the 'Here and Now...the best of Human Nature' CD. I have placed them here purely for the enjoyment and interest of fellow fans. They do not belong to me, nor were these comments collected by me. Be There With You
"We
had this chorus written for about two years before it became a
song. When you're singing about love, keep it simple. We love a
big sing and the vocals are huge on this." //Mike
C
Can I Do You
A bit
cheeky, we all have a bit of attitude. It's not what we say, but
how we say it. Mind you, none of us would dare use that line
ourselves!
Cruel
"This
is a fantastic sounding record. The song has a real soul and
warmth - I think the live strings have a lot to do with that."
//Phil

Don't Cry
"We
always wanted to dance on record like we did on stage. With a
touch of disco, I think this is still one of our most original
tracks." //Andrew
Don't Say Goodbye
"We
can't seem to do a concert without ending on this one. It does
everything a great ballad should do - even now the key change still blows your hair back." //Andrew

Eternal Flame
"This
was a hit for us in Asia before we even thought about putting it
on Counting Down. It's always a challenge to make a
classic song your own and judging by it's success - I think we
did a great job." //Phil
Everytime You Cry
"I
wasn't sure if this song was right for us at first - apparently I
was wrong. It was amazing how our voices and John's blended so
well. I'm proud to say that for a while there you couldn't listen
to the radio without hearing it." //Andrew

Got It Goin' On
"This
was our first single. I remember getting a huge thrill hearing it
on the radio for the first time. Maybe not our finest hour, but
great memories." //Phil
"It
was the first track we recorded. To be honest we had to go back
and do it again, because we were so nervous! When you're so close
to a track, you hear all these imaginary mistakes. But you know
you have to live with it forever, so you give it your best shot.
It's probably got a bit of a 70s feel because that's what 's
happening in clubs, and a NASA sample at the beginning.

He Don't Love You
"We
wanted to kick off the third album with a bang - no excuses.
Listening back to this. I wouldn't change a thing." //Mike

Last To Know
"When
I hear this, I still think of the fans doing all the moves from
the video clip. It's a great chorus - so catchy!" //Toby
Love Unconditional
Harmonies
are the best thing we do. We can play instruments but not onstage
because we concentrate on vocals. At school we did everything
from ensemble to barbershop quartet, so we've really had time to
work on our blend. It's difficult to pull off live if you haven't
put work into it.

Party
We
originally recorded it for the b-side of Tellin' Everybody but it
had such a great up-tempo vibe to it, we included it on the album.
People Get Ready
"In
our opinion, this is one of the best songs ever written. By far
one of our most performed songs, even singing it now it still
feels fresh. The version is a great recording but nothing
compares to experiencing it live." //Toby
We've been
doing this for ages on stage. It's an old song, of course, but we
first heard it on Rod Stewart's Unplugged album and redid the
vocals to make it ours. We have a great deal of affection for
this song because this is the one that got us our record deal.

September Girl
September
is a time of change, it's spring in Australia and very
unpredictable. It was one of the very first songs written by
Andrew and Michael. It's how we met Paul. Our origingal version
just had piano. We were told we had to get it programmed and his
name was suggested. Pauls young and smart with a great ear for
sounds like Babyface and Bobby Brown. We've turned each other
onto a lot of ideas.
Sleeping Alone
Our fans
are going crazy trying to work out what the bit in the beginning
is. Maybe you should play it backwards to get a secret message.
Actually, we were just mucking around in the studio, doing
bagpipes and opera singer impersonations which sounded good
enough to keep.
Something In The Way
It yelled,
SINGLE!! as soon as we heard it, because it's so infectious.
Andrew Klippel wrote this as well. His original version had a rap
midway though, but we're not rappers, so we didn't want to go
down that path. It's a real wild track, which goes down well at
the shows. We first did it on the Celine Dion shows and had
people up bopping. We were pretty much unknown but Celine treated
us so well, she gave us excellent sound and full lights.

Tellin' Everybody
"It's
strange that a song which wasn't one of our biggest chart hits is
still one of our most defining. People still walk by us on the
street and sing this one. I think that's cool!" //Andrew
It started
out as a reggae track but Paul Begaud, who produced most of the
album, asked us to try it with an acoustic guitar. it fell
together very quickly. Whne doing up-tempo party tracks you've
got to get the energy across. So we were jumping around during
the chorus getting the vibe up, as they say.

When We Were Young
"This
was one of the first songs we all had a hand in writing and
without meaning to, we wrote a lyric that says a lot about our
friendship. I think this is a great song." //Toby
Whisper Your Name
"This
was one of the last tracks we recorded for Telling Everybody.
It's got a slight 'Babyface' influence and a naive charm to the
lyrics." //Mike
"We
spent ages on getting the harmonies right on the chorus and are
really proud of it. We put together half a song our producer Paul
had and a song idea Andrew and Mike weren't sure what to do with.
It fell together seemlessly. In the bit about a jealous boyfriend
in the song, we imagined it was our manager, for some reason!
When you record an emotional track like this, it helps to close
your eyes and imagine the scenario being played out.
Wishes
"Out
of everything we've recorded, I still think this is one of our
best vocal performances. Still a favourite for many people and
one we'll always be proud of." //Toby
Our third
single, which shows a totally different face of the band. It was
written and produced by Andrew Klipel, of A.K Soul. He brought
out a real sophistication in us. When we first heard his demo, it
was just the vocal and no harmonies, and we weren't impressed by
it. But as we built it up, it's almost as if we'd written the
song ourselves. We brought in candles and incense, and turned
down the lights in the studio to get into the mood.
