Biography Katrina graduated from the BMus course at the Royal College of Music in 2005, where she held a scholarship to study flute with Jaime Martin and piccolo with Stewart McIlwham. While at the RCM, she received an award from the Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Fund towards the purchase of a Powell flute. She played principal flute in the RCM Opera orchestra and RCM Sinfonietta, and piccolo in the RCM Symphony Orchestra. Katrina comes from Buckinghamshire, where she held a County Music Scholarship. She was a student at Wycombe High School, and later worked there as a flute teacher. She also taught at Maltman's Green School in Bucks and the Young Music Makers' Centre in North London. Katrina is a Licentiate of London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama and holds the ABRSM Diploma. She is experienced in teaching and accompanying for the ABRSM examinations. She was the principal flautist of Buckinghamshire County Orchestra and Wind Orchestra, who later invited her back as a coach. Katrina also attended courses with the National Schools' Symphony Orchestra and National Youth Wind, and has enjoyed touring in England, Scotland, France, Italy and the Czech Republic. Katrina enjoys performing as a soloist, and has attended the Stratford-upon-Avon International Flute Festival where she participated in a number of masterclasses and recitals. She also enjoys giving recitals with the pianist Alisdair Kitchen, a colleague from the RCM, performing both in London and elsewhere, including as part of the series at Marlow Parish Church. Katrina also works with flautist Clare Jefferis and guitarist Johannes Moller, and is a member of the London W5 Wind Quintet. Together they have performed at London's National Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, Bolivar Hall, Westminster Cathedral and St Mary Abbot's Church. In July 2003 Katrina participated in masterclasses and concerts at the Academie Internationale d'Ete de Nice, studying under Maxence Larrieu. She returns to the Academie in 2006, under La Scala's Davide Formisano. She travelled to Berlin in September 2003 where she studied for a semester at Universitat der Kunste with professor Annette von Stackelberg. In Berlin she played in concerts at the Konzerthaus and the Rathaus Schoneberg with the Sibelius Orchester, and in Kyritz with colleagues from the Universitat. |
