Heinz's debut CD in demand (25 June)
Lourens du Plessis

Cape Town - Judging by the sales of his new CD, Heinz Winckler, South Africa's first Idol, has the girls weak in the knees.

Shops already stocking the CD are doing brisk business.

Musica Stellenbosch manager Lourens Kilian said: "We received 150 of these CDs this afternoon and have already sold about 70." Most of the buyers were young girls.

Greg Shaye of Musica in Sandton said his shop was expecting stocks to arrive on Tuesday. "We have had more than 150 enquiries already, mostly from young girls," Shaye said.

Compact Disc Warehouse at the Waterfront did not have Heinz's CD by Monday afternoon but also said several enquiries had been received.

Musica's Mimosa branch in Bloemfontein also had not received stocks by Monday, but manager Deon Smit expected the CD to sell like hot cakes.

The Musica branch in Tyger Valley, Bellville, sold more than 70 CDs on Monday afternoon, manager Grant Thiardt said.

BMG Africa sales director Russel Crawford said 30 000 copies of the CD had already been sold to branches.

"That includes the CDs sold to branches, but not delivered yet. Most of the shops should have stocks by tomorrow [Tuesday]."

Crawford expects 50 000 copies of Heinz's CD to sell in a jiffy.
