Idols perform for shrieking fans (July 04)

Johannesburg - They shrieked, they screamed and their idols didn't fare too badly either.

A packed Northgate Dome on Saturday night came face to face with the Idols TV series contestants, who belted out their favorite pop songs.

From Ezra Lingeveldt, who sang Otis Redding's Dock of the Bay, to Melanie Lowe, who performed the old Annie Lennox favorite Little Bird, the varied but mostly white crowd hung onto every note emananating from the stage of this Johannesburg northern suburbs venue.

Idols winner Heinz Winckler was one of the crowd favorites. He sang his latest release Once In a A Lifetime, which is selling well but has been slated by detractors.

Ayanda Nhlangoti vindicated Idols judge Dave Thompson's decision to offer her a contract even before the winner had been decided.

It remains to be seem which Idols will make it. Only time will tell.
