|
| Kristen: As a south african living overseas, i've noticed how popular you've become way out here where i am. what's it like knowing that you've become so well known not only nationally, but internationally? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: It's an awesome realisation that I don't think has totally sunk in. I feel very fortunate that this has happened to me. | |
| Judy-Leigh: Who did you support out of the UK Idols? And do you look forward to meeting them? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I was a big Hayley fan, but I believe that Will deserved to win, and it would be great to meet them. | |
| Chantelle: Which song did you like to perform most and why? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Shallow Waters, because it's a beautiful song. It was a challenge I feel I met and the audience's response was wonderful. | |
| amanda: Hi Heinz, Well done you are an Idol and deserve everyting of the best. Hope you will stay the same and don't worry about all the nasty comments ! How can your fans keep in contact with you? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Thank you very much. The Idols website will stay on-line for at least another month and I am in the process of getting my own website up and running, which I will inform you guys about as soon as it's finished, and then you can use that to get hold of me. | |
| rudi: Would you recommend the Idols project to other people that might want to enter next year? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I will definitely recommend it to people who have the talent, confidence and stamina to handle the stress that the competition creates and the media hype around it. | |
| candice: Now that your our Idol, you have lots of photo shots, do you enjoy posing infront of the cameras? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I feel comfortable in front of the camera - especially through the Idols experience I have learned to handle that better. Depending on the crew doing the shoot, it can be a very enjoyable experience. | |
| Robyn: Hi Heinz: If you could take only 3 things with you on tour - what would they be and why? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: My guitar, cause I'll need it, a good pair of shades that'll look cool on stage and my Bible, 'cause I take it everywhere anyway. | |
| Michelle: Congrats!!! Q: Is your every move always monited and are body guards always with you? what happens if you feel like going out on your own? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: All the official meetings and appearances will be overseen by Marcus and my booking agent, and I'll only be escorted by bodyguards at such meetings and appearances. They do respect my private space and time and therefore I will be able to do stuff on my own. | |
| Anri: chantelle: hi heinz! was jy embarresed toe gareth cliff van 702 sulke persoonlike vrae gevra het? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Ja, dit het my ongemaklik gemaak. | |
| Riėtte: This might sound like a weird question, but if you could build a house anywhere in SA, where would it be? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Harold's Bay. I fell in love with the place the first time I saw it. | |
| Anri: do you have any surprises in store for us at the idols concert?? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise. | |
| Belinda: Hi Heinz, firstly you were awesome! If you were to remain in Jhb where would you stay and is your BMG Contract and international contract? Imagine you and Will Young singing together. | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Thank you. At this stage I have no idea. The contract is potentially international, it depends on sales in this country. Yes, it will be great to sing with Will Young - I've heard rumours that they are planning to have an international Pop Idol competition with all the winners of the different countries. | |
| Chantelle: What do you think is your best quality and your worst quality? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I think one of my qualities is a bit of both, and that is that I'm a bit of a perfectionist. It's good because it pushes me to always do my best, but it can be bad as well because sometimes I work on people's nerves. | |
| annabell: Becoming an Idol you also step into the shoes of a role model, .....are there any projects that you are interested in doing to give something back to the community ? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I haven't thought about specific projects, but if I get into a position where I'm able to finance projects, I think I'd start in my home town where there are communities with needs. | |
| KEVIN: Are you aware that you have a huge following amongst the gay population in South Africa? and what are your views on gay people? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I've heard that I have support from the gay community. My view on gay people is the same as any other people and that is that we are all equal and deserve to be loved. | |
| danny: Heinz Winckler, South Africa's own idol! I just have one question for you, what was your reaction when they said that you had won, because you didn't seem shocked at all! | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Well, I watched the video of the show and I seemed shocked to myself. It was a huge moment and a big rush and I was very happy. | |
| Johanna: Heinz, according to the media the voting was marred by mention of racism & sindicates, did you encounter and negativity from the public on your tours of the country? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: No, the publicity tour was just one awesome experience. We were asked during radio interviews about the race issue and the syndicate issue, but most people were supportive and didn't make much of it. | |
| MARITA: Are you originally from Stellenbosch and is your home language Afrikaans? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Ja en ja! | |
| Robyn: What CD is in your CD player at the moment? And who was the last international/local band/artist that you saw? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I can't remember, I think it's Sarah Maclachlan's Live CD. The last band I saw live was Live. | |
| Robyn: Hey Heinz- Congrats!! now that you are in the music industry and will be releasing an abulm - wat is your opinion on programs like napster, limewire etc and sites where you can download MP3's? do you think they are good exposure for artists or damaging to record sales? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I think for upcoming artists being able to make your music available on MP3 sites to get exposure is a great opportunity. But of course it gets damaging when released albums are pirated and being made available on websites where people can get it for free. | |
| Erefaan: You were up against some tough competition, what's it like? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: It's an amazing experience from which I have learned a lot, and I've made some great friends. Being amongst such good musicians and singers pushes one to one's limit. | |
| Shamina: Whatz your 'Once In A Lifetime' video going to be like and will it be shot in SA? Congratulations on winning Idols!! | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I don't know what it's going to be like, but I'm pretty sure it will be shot in this country. Thank you. | |
| Jenny: Hi Heinz, congrats on living your dreams!! when do you think we can expect an album from you? and on a more personal note, if you dont mind...what is your birth date? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Thank you. At this stage our aim is to bring the first album out before Christmas and my birthday is 22 March. | |
| Cathy: What do you think was the main reason you won Idols: Looks or Voice? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Hopefully a combination, with more emphasis on voice. | |
| Yvette: Well done Heinz! Which idol would you have voted for if you were not a contestant? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Ezra. | |
| Chantelle: All of the top11 contestants talk about Heidi very highly, what did you gain from her? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: A lot of wisdom and insight, not just about singing in the situation we were in, but also about the business and industry of music. | |
| Erin: If you had the choice would you rather go clubbing or stay at home with a good book? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Tough choice...I guess I'd have to say clubbing, 'cause I'm not a big reader. | |
| Elmé: ARe you going to pay any attention the the letters you received at the forum? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I have been reading as often as I can and I've also posted quite a few messages. If you feel neglected I'm sorry, I will try to respond to as many people as I can as soon as I get the time. | |
| Donald: Are there any plans for a country wide top eleven idols tour? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Yes. We'll see you soon. | |
| d: Unfortunately I'm going to be at work when this happens... bad darn luck... just wanted to ask what your favourite band is and pass time... ?? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I have a few favourite bands: Dave Matthews Band, Lifehouse, Live, U2, Creed and my favourite pastime would be to make music and dance. | |
| Sally: Who are your personal Idols? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Steven Curtis Chapman, a gospel musician and Sting. | |
| Robyn: Hey:o) did you watch the UK pop idols?? which TV programs do you enjoy watching the most? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Yes, I did. I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm a big fan of The Practice and Friends. | |
| Janine: What was your most memorable experience of Idols? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Besides winning? I would have to say the first top 11 show, getting on that stage and singing for such a big audience was a dream come true. | |
| Faaiza: Who was your favoutite judge and why? from BiggestFan | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: It's hard to say, but I think I liked Dave and Marcus the most - not just because they gave constructive criticism, but they also have spent time with us off screen, so I've gotten to know them better. | |
| michele: hello from Mauritius..do you know that you are popular in so many countries outside africa? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: It is really overwhelming to know that so many people from many different countries are watching. I hear every day of another place that people have been watching the show. To know that we have such a big audience is an awesome realisation. Thank you for your support. | |
| Agata: What do you most love doing (beside singing)? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Dancing. | |
| Raph: First of all, congratulations. You surely have made all of us at Stellenbosch University very proud. Being in the Idols Competition and more importantly, winning the competition, must surely mean that your family and friends don't get to see you as much as they usually do. How often do you get to be at home (as the Idol) and just chill with loved ones? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: During the Idols experience I have missed my family a lot. Luckily they were able to come to the last three shows and it was great to have them there. Spending time with them is very important to me, so I will try and make time for that in my schedule as much as possible. | |
| Jed: Heinz: I entered Idols as well, but was eliminated quite early - I know a little bit of the tension and stress that was experienced, do you feel drained in any way ? Jed | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Doing all the interviews and the meet and greets with fans one does get tired, but it's a lot of fun and you do somehow get more fit at it as time goes by. | |
| mandy: Hi Heinz. Firstly congrads!!! My question, Based on the idols song you have done, Do you feel that the material that you are being given to sing is your style or would you like to sing another type of style. | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I think my style is pop/rock as I hope I've shown throughout Idols. The single is more of a pop song, but I really like doing it, and in the end that's what's important. I have to enjoy the music and be proud of it. | |
| Judy-Leigh: who would you most like to meet in the music industry? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Sting and Dave Matthews. | |
| candice: Does your BMG contract include international recognition or will we be the only country to hear you? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: The contract does not guarantee international sales, that is something that we are going to work at. | |
| nici: Well done on winning - I was really happy for you. What have you been doing since you won - had any rest at all? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Thank you. I have been runnning from one interview to the next on radio stations and with the press. I've also been on KTV and for a few photo shoots. Tonight and tomorrow night I will be on two kykNET shows. | |
| Tisha Sarah: Who were you closest to during the idols experience? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: There wasn't some specific from the contestants - we all got along well. I did, however, become quite close with Alet, who was the lady that chaperoned us most of the time. She was like our mom. | |
| Kobus: Are you going to be doing any roadshows like you did before the finals? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Those weren't really roadshows, it was a publicity tour. I believe we are doing a country-wide tour of the eleven where we will visit all the big cities and maybe even more. But I don't have more details than that at this stage - and those will be roadshows! | |
| candice: hello Heinz. Congradulations on winning and 3 excellent performances on Sunday night. How do you feel about your first single cause its a brilliant song. | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Thank you very much. I love the song and I'm very proud to be the one to bring the single out. | |
| Derek: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I'm not big on making life plans in five year slots, but I guess I would like to be in a position where I have at least two albums behind my name and I have finished my first world tour. | |
| Joyce: Where did you learn to make that hip move that I believe made you win? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: It's something that just comes naturally - when I feel the music, I need to move. | |
| hoo: Did you have a premonition that you'd win the idols, especially after you made it top 3 | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I've been confident about doing well, but always forced myself to take it a step at a time. Obviously I hoped that I would win, but I didn't put my heart on it. | |
| hoo: Who among the contestants was a real threat to you? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I didn't see anyone as a threat, mostly as competition, and the people that I though were my biggest competition were Rian, Ezra, Brandon and Bianca. | |
| Barbara: Hi Heinz. If you had the opportunity, who out of the remaining 10 Idols would you most want to sing a duet with? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Nicole. | |
| Craig: Hi Heinz and congratulations. Have you been for a drive in your new Toyota MR2 yet? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Hi, thank you very much. I have been on a short one. At the moment the car's being taken to Stellenbosch and I'll receive it there on Saturday when I go home - and then I'll definitely take it for a long spin! | |
| Darryl: Do you play any other instruments except for the guitar as shown during th Finale? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Yes, I play drums, a bit of bass guitar and the harmonica. | |
| Darryl: Are you a rugby supporter? If so, who is your favourite team? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Yes, I am - Western Province and Stormers. | |
| Sylvana: Were there any romances going on between any of the idols? be honest :) | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: No, not that I know of. | |
| Nuraan: Do you think South Africa has what it takes to compete with the rest of the world? And if so, do you see yourself as being one of our greatest exports? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Yes, I do, I think the potential is definitely there. I am working with a great team of producers and engineers and our aim is to go as big as possible. Our first priority is to make it big nationally, and then move on from there to make it international. It would be a dream come true if I can make in internationally as a South African artist. | |
| Mel: Would you ever think of going back to law school? Or do you think your singing career is a secure one? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: It's probably naive to think that a career such as this can be secure, but I'm very confident at this stage and I'm going to work hard at making it a success. I would like to finish my law studies in the future, but I'm not sure when. | |
| Sue: Firstly - you rock! We (my 15 year old daughter and I) picked you from the very first audition, and have campaigned for you since then. You have it all, and we're sure you will go ALL the way, both here and internationally. Is it your intention to remain a solo artist, with a 'faceless' backing band, or do you ultimately want be the front man of an all out rock outfit? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Thank you for your wonderful support. I would like to be a solo artist. I would like to play with a band and they would be anything but faceless. I believe if you play with a band it's very important to know them all well so as to achieve the best result. It might not be an all-rock outfit, maybe more of a pop/rock band - at this stage I'm not sure. | |
| Meg: Isn't it weird to hear your song on the radio? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: No, it's wonderful. It's a dream come true. | |
| Yvonne: How much do you practice, how long do you practice, and HOW do you practice? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Within the Idols context, I practice as many times as I can by going through the song, trying different ways of singing it. Periods of practice were dependent on the schedule we had, so the times I spent on the songs each week would vary. | |
| Valente: Do you think putting your stuidies on hold is really worth it for all this sparkle and publicity? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I didn't enter Idols for the sparkle and publicity as you put it, but to get to a place where I will have a big audience. That I have achieved and therefore I think it was worth it to give up my studies for now. My plan at this stage is to finish my studies in the future. | |
| Maryke: How did you finally make the decision to enter the Idols competition? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I thought and prayed a lot about it, and in the end just a few days before the closing date I decided to take the chance and see what happened. | |
| Cheryse: Well done & Good Luck Heinz, my Q is ... what do you think you will miss the most about your life BEFORE Idols? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: The privacy issue is the first thing that springs to mind. I am a reasonably private person and to have the press asking a lot of questions, trying to get into my life, is kind of hard, but I realise it's part of being an Idol, and I'm willing to make that sacrifice. I will try and compensate by working private time into my schedule as frequently as possible. | |
| Rona: Will you and Mel be able to do a duet together? When you did the impromptu 'jam' with the guitars, which we saw towards the end of Sunday evening's show, you guys really sang well together. I think your voices compliment each other. Well done, we are all very proud of you and good luck for the future. | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I think so too. We have played a few times together and it really worked well. We are still working on the format for the live shows, but I'm pretty sure they will be open to most of us doing combinations of duets and I would like to sing a duet with Mel. | |
| Tisha Sarah: How do you feel about the attention that you get from girls? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I'm very flattered, but I try not to let it get to my head. | |
| Liezl: Living with my ears on the ground, I hear lots of talk about you being the perfect role model (rightly so!!) and about people, especially children, looking up to you. Do you realize and can you currently CONCEIVE the extent of the massive amount of sudden adoration, respect and admiration for you by people from all over the country? How does that make you feel? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: It's overwhelming, but really wonderful. I feel priveleged and honoured to be in this position. I realise that it brings a lot of responsbility and I look forward to meeting that challenge. | |
| Heather: Congratulations and all best wishes Heinz - I am dying to know - what does 'Ma se klong' mean? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Thank you very much. It's an Afrikaans term that means something like 'mommy's boy' or 'mommy's boytjie'. | |
| Lesley: Hi Heinz, Congratulations, you really deserved to win. Aare your plans to go back to Stellenbosch and work from there or will you be staying in Joburg? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: Thank you. As yet I am not sure where I will be based. I would like to be based in Stellenbosch and then come up to Joburg when I need to, but I'm not sure if that's the most practical thing to do. I think the ideal thing to do is to have a flat in Joburg and in Stellenbosch but we'll have to see. | |
| Robyn: What inspired you to study law? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: From a young age, I enjoyed watching TV shows and movies about Law and that kindled my love for law. I think it's an interesting field because it touches on most professional fields. | |
| Sally: You mentioned on KTV (not that I watch KTV by the way ... I think 28 would be a bit old to be watching kids programmes!!!) the other day that you were busy with a documentary. What is the documentary about? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: M-Net is doing a documentary on the winner which will be aired in the near future. It basically is an hour show that will be about me and my path in Idols. | |
| Sally: You and Bianca seemed allot closer than than just good friends ... was there any connection between the two of you ? (Sorry ... but I had to ask) | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I guess looks can be deceiving. We were close, but we were and are still friends. | |
| nadia: First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS on an absolutely stunning performance throughout pop idols. Your ability to sing and perform is amazing and I'm glad you came as far as winning pop idols! My one and only question is; I read in an interview that you're a dedicated christian. Has this experience changed your relationship with God in any way? Thanks for singing my favourite song, 'Drops of Jupiter', and thanks for all the goosebumps I had everytime I heard you sing. I really hope that I get the chance to meet you one day when you're in Johannesburg. It would be a great pleasure. | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: My relationship with God has not changed, but it has grown throughout this experience. I have grown a lot closer to Him and the main reason for that is because I'm so far away from home and my close friends and normal support structures. It has been a wonderful experience which I would not have been able to get through if it wasn't for His help. Thanks for your support. | |
| Jabber: Firstly, contratulations on winning Idols. Now that your recording contract is inevitable, do you have any idea what you will be recording? And have you written any of your own songs that you would like to record? | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: As far as I know, we are aiming for the pop/rock market. I have written some of my own songs and my goal is to try and get at least two of them on the first album. | |
| Raymond: How are you feeling? Are you sleeping? Well done ~ you're a great example to follow. Have you been in touch with Brandon & Melanie (they are also great ~ how are they doing?). | |
| Winner: Heinz Winckler!: I'm feeling wonderful, I am sleeping, not that much though - the last three mornings I've been up at six for interviews and gotten to bed late. Thank you for the compliment. I saw Brandon and Melanie the last few days, but I've been very busy and they've both moved out of Gold Reef City, so I'll only see them with the rest of the eleven next week when we rehearse for the live show. | |
