Befriend One Another. October 27, 2002

1) Practice Christlike behavior. Colossians 3:12
==>We are called God’s CHOSEN people.
=======> we’re set aside to forgive
=======> we should share the burdens of church
=======> It is not fair to burden SOME and make them take on all our duties
=======> If we call Jesus “Boss”, be ready to obey
=======> the New Testament doesn’tteach INDIVIDUALIZED Christian faith
==> We Need to put on Holy Garments of Compassion, Kindness, Humility, Gentleness, and Patience
=======> they are all components of righteousness
=======> There are four other Graces that are evidence of our calling.
===========> Humility … don’t insist on getting your way
…………………………stop thinking about yourself and more of others
…………………………the world does NOT revolve around you
===========> Gentleness … does not mean you need to break your spirit, but to teach yourself to be controlled
………………………………do not bruise other people around you
===========> Patience … God gives people a chance to repent without striking back – do we do that?
………………………………be patient, give the other person a chance to apologize.
===========> Forbearance … Romans 15:1
…………………………………..putting up with people’s faults
--> Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
--> Romans 15:1 we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves.

2) Practice Christlike Forgiveness. Colossians 3:13
===> says not to just forbear one another, but also to not take any action against each other.
--> Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
==> Forgiveness is the act of Excusing or pardoning another in spite of his betrayals, Shortcomings, and errors
======>It’s not YOUR forgiveness you give, it’s Jesus’…’cause when you don’t forgive, you’re saying that Jesus’ sacrifice is not enough for you
======>Because Jesus has been declared Righteous, this is also true for those whom He Respresents.
Matthew 18:21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.”
-----> Jesus died for EVERY sin
2 Corinthians 2:10 If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven – if there was anything to forgive – I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.

3. Practice Christlike Unity in Love. Colossians 3:14 -->it’s no good to criticize one another
==>The Absence of the four graces hurt Christian unity.
Romans 13:8 Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.
1 Timothy 1:5 The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.
1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Ephesians 4:3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

==> Not compeition but cooperation is the heart of the christian lifestyle.
==> The Holy Spirit who will prompt members to forgive one another no matter how much they have been wronged.
