My name is Bob Pepek. When I was 10, my grandmother bought me my first guitar, a cheap no-name acoustic guitar. It was to be my early Christmas gift. Knowing almost nothing about guitars, I brought it home, and had my cousin tune it up. My cousin was in a band of his own and played guitar as well, so instead of taking the time to involve myself in lessons, I asked him for a couple of quick pointers. My cousin handed me what was the start of my instrumental apprenticeship, a tablature book on The Beatles. The Beatles, one of my biggest influences, used a plethera of chord progressions, and lyrics.
I spent what seemed like endless hours strumming and singing, and had soon memorized a handful of their songs. I had completely self taught myself up until this point with the help of my cousin and a couple of friends from time to time. I kept practicing day in day out learning everything that I could and mastering the techniques on my own. I soon was able to put together chord progressions of my own and work them together into my own mixture. As a kid, growing up listening to modern music like Greenday, I had the utter dreams of writing punk music, which later faded. My music that I wrote took on that of a meglodramtic pop-like genre instead.
After using the guitar my grandmother had given me along with a few others for the past 8 years, my father got me a Takamine Acoustic guitar for my 18th birthday. I used that guitar for about a year and a half, however, did not like the sound. So I then went and traded in the Takamine for a Fender Dreadnaught Acoustic guitar, which I am still currently using.
I started recording my music on many numerous computer recording programs that I installed on my computer. It was a rough start for my recordings, however, it was a begining. I then burned the recordings onto CD's and gave them out to friends and family, in hopes that they would play the music around their friends and it would slowly catch on.
All my songs are taken from personal experience. Inspired by love, hate, sorrow, and more, I write my heart away and have for the past 11 years. I write as a way to express everything that I'm feeling and use it as a way to release all of my emotions. In my spare time that I have, which can be difficult at times, I play at random open mic gigs, and personal shows for friends. When not performing, I am never without my guitar in my hands. While I currently attend college, I manage to make use of the colleges recording studio and equipment to record some of my music.
I am working very very hard writing new songs and trying new things. I am in the process of getting my music heard in hopes of being noticed and fulfilling my dream of making it in the world of music. I have contacted many organizations that promote independent, unsigned musicians and am in the process of sending out demos. I have set up dates in which I will be recording in a professional studio and making an offical demo.
I know the road to my music career will be long and hard, but I have close friends, family, people who care, and my own personal drive which will be with me until the end, whenever that may be.
