Tom started teaching himself cornet at the age of eight, having wanted to play for as long as he can remember. He is currently studying for a graduate diploma (GRAD.RNCM) at the Royal Northern College of Music and a BMus (Hons) degree at the University of Manchester. Up until September 2001 Tom was heavily involved in brass bands, having been the Principal of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and Repiano cornet with the Williams Fairey Band, as well as being the Principal cornet of his school brass band, from Tapton School, Sheffield. In February 2002 Tom competed as a brass finalist in the BBC Young Musicians Competition 2002. Besides BOOTH STREET BRASS, Tom is also a member of The Groves, and the University Challenge Brass Quintet.
