How it all began...
The meeting of producer Sergey Pudovkin and Vitas happened by chance in one of Odessa’s theatres. Pudovkin was so shaken by what he had seen on the stage that he decided to bring this project to Moscow.
No sooner had Vitas appeared on the musical Olimp, he won the reputation of the most expensive Russia’s actors. “Vitas – is really a very costly project, admits producer Sergey Pudovkin, - but costly doesn’t mean luxurious, everyone knows that one can pay a million dollars and make a cheap thing”.
Performances of Vitas are full of unusual images. This is the reason why there will never be any common back-vocals and dances near him. Participating professional actors help the spectators at the performances of Vitas to get into another unfamiliar world, to understand its language. These professional actors are: St-Petersburg’s Theatre of pantomime “Nos” and the Puppet and Dances Theatre. The costumes, elaborated by Sergey Pudovkin and Yury Ars are also sophisticated and original. For example, the one of metal with exquisite spring form weighs about 15 kilos (by the way, 1,2 kilos among them are pure silver). It had been manufactured for 6 months, specially for the song “Dreams”.
“The recording is made at the best studios in Moscow and London, - says Pudovkin, - clip on “Opera # 2” was filmed by nobody else but Grymov, a famous Russian director and clip-maker. After this song 24 variations in music and 9 in vocal framing were made, the work only on this song was going on for 3 months. 2 months were spent on the song “Dreams”, and about a month on “Karlsson”. In the production of the first album 7 arrangers are involved together with several sound producers. In the case of another project this would have make for the worse, because such differences in style rarely bring any good. But the applications of Vitas’s talent are so varied that everybody had to do his own job.
