Indrajit Banerjee was born
in 1965 in a family of musicians. He inherited his musical talent from his
sitarist mother, who was a disciple of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee.
Indrajit
had initial sitar training from his maternal grandfather Bankim Kumar Pal
and later from Pt. Manilal Nag. For the last fifteen years he has been
under the tutelage of Pandit Kartick Kumar, senior disciple of Pandit Ravi
Shankar.
Coming
from the rich heritage of Senia Gharana, he is able to astound both lay
music lovers and connoissuers with his unique depth and poetic style. His
sweet lyrical musical eloquence blends with his sophisticated aesthetic
sense in a distinct manner which both charms and tugs at the heart strings
of the soul.
He is an 'A-grade' Artiste of Indian Radio and Televison, also an
approved artiste of l.C.C.R. (Govt. of India). Indrajit was awarded the 'Gokul
Nag Memorial Gold Medal' in 1987 by Bangiya Sangeet Parishad (Bengal), 'Sura-Mani'
in 1990 by Sur-SingarSamsad (Bombay) and 'Abhinav Kala Samman' in 1997 by
Abhinav Kala Parishad (Bhopal).
He has
featured in many broadcasts from the B.B.C., Radio NDR (Germany), Monte
Carlo Radio, TV Asia, Radio France, Martinique Radio and TV.
Indrajit, an Artist of many dimensions, is also a Graduate of Arts,
University of Calcutta and 'Sangeet Bibhakar' of Bangiya Sangeet Parisad
(affiliated to Rabindra Bharati University). He was invited for teaching
assignment in England and Germany His performances are featured on Audio
Cassettes, C.D.s and Video recordings.
