"The Road" by the Crownsmen
"The
Road" is the first
album by the Crownsmen in nearly 20 years and is a collection of songs written
by members of the group over recent years. The Crownsmen have always attempted
to be on the edge of the Southern Gospel genre- progressive and different
- and this recording accomplishes this goal quite nicely. By writing
songs such as "Good Bye Rose", "Beyond the Rain", and "Before Yesterday's Gone",
the group has remained on the "Southern Gospel" tree, while "Home",
"Meditate on These", and the Dwight Yockum-esque title
cut have broken new recording ground for the group; making this
album somewhat uniquely refreshing. One will find "The Road" original,
thoughtful and enlightening.
"Right at Home" by Gary Kenedy
It may seem unusual for
a perceived rock-n-roller like Gary Kenedy to write and record a Country album,
but when you have the talent and the material - why not? After hearing
this album, one could ask "Why doesn't he just do Country?" All of these songs
are well thought out and wonderfully orchestrated - from the clever and
catchy "Going Through It", to the progressive and thought provoking "Better Country" and the powerful
message of "All the Words". Gary even has his talented wife, Deanna, sing
lead vocal on "Always on His Mind" and his children join him on "Momma" -
a tribute to his wife and his own Momma. This album is truly
a family affair. Listen to this album and 16 songs later you will find yourself
encouraged and refreshed.
