Typhoon Ferri

Typhoon Ferri, the trio from somewhere in America(!) have done themselves proud. This 6 track EP is The EP to be seen grooving to.
The first track, ‘Infamous’ and the second track ‘Crystal Shawmut Shuttle’, have a very distinctive and almost Spanish sound to them, there are nice guitar melodies. The third track, ‘Fistful of Euphoria’, stops and stars every few seconds for the first 30 of the song, im sure some people would see it as an amazingly put together intro, but to be honest I just found it a bit annoying after a while, and don’t they say the first 30 seconds of a song is the most important? but once it does finally start, you’ll soon be dusting off that air guitar cos this is one cool song, with some pretty cool riffs, but my personal favorite has to be track 6, ‘Brown Money’. It has such a funky jazz sound mixed with something I think can only be described as…..Jungle? You can’t help but love it.

But of course with any CD there are bad songs. Track 4 doesn’t seem to flow very well, I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was, but there was definitely something there that made me think it needed some…. Oomph! (bit of a technical term there!) Another song which I have to criticize (sorry, but come on, 2 out of 6 isn’t bad!) is number 5, ‘Kicking’ Around’, the guitars in some parts seemed to be quite similar to another of their songs, admitably it was only a few parts, a few very small parts, and the melodies in the song really made up for it, but still….

The vocalist has a strong voice and I think this is what makes the songs what they are, brilliant and full of originality. Theyre the kind of band you find yourself mezmorised to in a club. They have the kinda songs you just cant get out of your head, and quite frankly why would you want to? This is one funky band.
