My Favorite Foo Pic!
THE STORY: Dave Grohl was in a great many local VA/DC bands growing up such as Dain Bramage, Mission Impossible, Scream, amongst others. He learned to drum on pillowcases in his room and eventually became drummer for the great grunge band *Nirvana* .. where he made a name for himself permanantly in rock history. After a series of tragic events and the end of Nirvana Dave returned to his old guitar/vocal roots and continued to fool around picking up the guitar and singing; recording Demo tracks with his friend Barrett Jones in basements and studios as a competition to see who could write the best songs in given times which he had started before & during Nirvana's time period. Well soon some of these demos were handed out and a Cassette Tape was released under the band name 'Pocketwatch' and the tape was called "Late!". After that peeked the interest of some companies Dave recorded the Self Titled Foo Fighters Album, all tracks by himself in less than a few weeks.

After picking up a fanbase with the first album and having such a successful tour Dave decided to fully recruit his temporary tour band of: Pat Smear (The Germs, Late Nirvana Lead Guitarist), Nate Mendel (Sunny Day Real Estate Bassist), and William Goldsmith (Sunny Day Real Estate Drummer). The band entered the studio to record the follow up album, "The Colour and the Shape" but this led to problems... William Goldsmith had an outing with Dave on some drum tracks and left the band to later be replaced by Taylor Hawkins (Alanis Morrisette Drummer). Dave's wife; Jennifer Youngblood, who did the cover art for the self titled album then was divorced from Dave which created the angry vibe you hear on TCATS. Pat Smear then left the band suddenly and was replaced with Dave's good old friend Franz Stahl from past band (Scream), to finish off the TCATS tour. After a bunch of success both with CD sales and on the road Foo Fighters began to become a solid rock group that weren't going away.

"There is Nothing Left to Lose" was then in the works when Franz Stahl up and left the band during recording and The Foo Fighters became a three piece temporarily. The album was recorded at Dave's home studio 606 in his basement in Arlington / Alexandria, VA after leaving LA. The tour began and Chris Shiflett (No Use For A Name guitarist) was aquired through a guitar tryout process. That would become the permanant/current line up in which grew into the rock band 'Foo Fighters' known today. The newest album "One By One" has set the Foo Fighters to a 'Rock 'n' Roll' Hall of Fame status and they just keep getting bigger. Now onto their upcoming double disc album titled: "In Your Honor/The Warehouse" ... they are truly a classic rock band! With such classic singles as: "This is a Call", "I'll Stick Around", "Big Me", "Alone + Easy Target", "For All the Cows", "Exhausted", "Everlong", "My Hero", "Monkey Wrench", "Walking After You", "Baker Street [Gerry Rafferty Cover]", "Learn to Fly", "Breakout", "Stacked Actors", "Generator", "Next Year", "The One", "All My Life", "Low", "Have it All", "Times Like These", "Times Like These [Acoustic]", "Darling Nikki [Prince Cover]", & "Best Of You", the Foo Fighters have shown their diversity and talent growing as a band throughout the years & how they can aim to please every type of musical genre. Also they are one of the top live acts you could ever see! Speaking of them live, go out and get their live DVD called "Everywhere But Home" .. it is incredible, & I was at the acoustic show they have on it. Front row baby! :)
Dave has also recorded the score for the "Touch" Soundtrack, made appearances on: Reeves Gabrel Solo Album, MXPX - " " Album, Queens of the Stone Age - "Songs for the Deaf", Toni Iommi's Solo Album - "Iommi", David Bowie's Album - "Heathen", Tenacious D's Debut CD - "Tenacious D", Killing Joke's (S/T Album), Drumming on the "Backbeat" Soundtrack, he produced (Verbena's - 'Into the Pink' Album), Dave also Produced the 'Rye Coallition' Album, drummed on the Nine Inch Nails 2005 Album Release, & put together the legendary/classic metal album of all time "PROBOT!" .. and Foo Fighters have been on a great many soundtracks as well. Chris Shifflett has a side band called "Jackson United" formerly known as "Jackson".. so check out their EP. Nate Mendel has also written the score to a Soundtrack for a movie called "Our Burden is Light" & was a member of "The Fire Theft" (Formerly Sunny Day Real Estate) band. Taylor Hawkins was formerly in Alanis Morrisette as the drummer & he also has made a couple guest appearances on other band's albums as well.
Norfolk concert I attended.
I have been a die hard Foo Fighters fan ever since the whole thing started, the self titled album was the first CD, and Cassette I ever bought growing up along with (Offspring's - "Smash") and I have been collecting all the memorabelia I can find ever since. I have almost every recorded song they have ever done...over 200 official Foo Fighters CDs, around 70 CD Bootlegs, along with many other things such as shirts, magazines, posters, all the videos, and many VHS concerts. I have seen them 10 times live and hope to make it many more. But if you want to trade live shows or ask me a question feel free to E-Mail me at oxygenslave@att.net until my Trade Page is up! My discography/Songlist page should be up before too long too with all my CD's, etc. RAWK ON: Cloud.
