Did You Know...?
Christina, 19, is from the Tidewater town of Hampton, Virginia. She traveled 10 hours by bus to New York City to audition for Popstars.
What She's Doing Now
"I've been writing music since the second grade."
Christina Petty is doing what she had been doing before she became involved in Popstars. She's writing songs - from alternative to R & B to country. The difference is now when she goes out to a restaurant, people stop her and ask her about Popstars. She's been interviewed for local newspapers and television stations and is making music industry connections that she never dreamed of - that is, before she appeared on Popstars.
"Popstars gave me a lot of confidence. Now I'm going to get my songs copyrighted. I plan on making more contacts and going into the studio and putting a demo together."
Popstars launched Christina into a whole new world, far away from her life in Virginia. When she came to the Los Angeles Workshop, she faced huge challenges. "There was so much talent at the Workshop. At first I was scared. The girls were all so supportive. Then I slowly started to relax. Working with Travis and Roger and the others was very positive too. David Foster was great. He gave me tips on how to develop a stronger voice. I know I will use what he taught me for the rest of my career. Along the way, all the judges encouraged me to come out of myself. By the time I got a make-over at the Viper Room and performed that night, I felt really good about myself."
Before Popstars, Christina had always pictured herself as a solo artist. "I preferred to sing on my own. Popstars opened me up to the idea of being part of a group. I never knew that I could click, bond and harmonize in a group before Popstars."
"I appreciate everyone who watched the show. I'm moving forward, writing my songs and singing. Tomorrow I'm shooting a commercial. Popstars not only taught me how to become a better singer, but also opened my eyes up to the professional music world and how it works. I am not going to stop pursuing my career. Hopefully, you will hear something from me very soon."
