"FOR THOSE WHO LIVED, LOVED AND KNOW THE MUSIC"

The R&B music of the 60's, 70's and the early 80’s will clearly go down as a high point of American music in the 20th century. The power, strength and passion of Rhythm & Blues completely changed the landscape of American popular music. The strength and quality of the music is manifesting itself in the establishing of radio stations in most major markets that are formatted exclusively to these "Soul Classics" and also contemporary hit stations that designate a substantial portion of their programming to R&B vintage music.

With a rebirth of this golden era of music on the radio something is definitely missing.  The “classic” music stations are playing the same songs over and over again and the discussion of other cultural and historical events that drove the creation of the music are virtually non-existent.  Although I love the songs Ooh Baby Baby, You’re Still A Young Man, My Girl and Always and Forever, hearing them everyday is a bit much even for these classics.  The play list for Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Tower of Power, Temptations and Heat Wave are much more than the one or two songs that are played on many “Classic” radio stations.

Your ability to hear the depth and breath of R&B music has been substantially reduced by local and national radio stations that are owned by corporate entities and in many cases have no connection to the music that they market. It is not our job to be judgmental on how these media organizations run their business but some of the reasons you see such a limited variety of R&B music on these stations are because they:

1. Play only the songs that were in the top 10 on the R&B charts and just as importantly “crossed over” to the pop charts.

2. Use songs that have mass-market appeal particularly to the very diverse Bay      Area audience, which include listeners from all over the country and world. These men & women are of many different races, ages, and economic strata are those who in many cases have only a casual involvement and interest in R&B.

3. Many of the Program Directors and On Air Personalities are late converts to the music and have only a “learned” understanding of the R&B music of the times. We are going to provide a place where all the good music can be brought back to life without regard to their commercial success.

The presentation of the music is alive in the "hip hop" generation of today with the constant "sampling" of rap and reissuing of the music by producers like Sean "Puffy" Combs.  We feel that the real “soul” of the music not being served by commercial radio today.
