---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SONG: Replica BAND: Fear Factory ALBUM: Demanufacture TRANSCRIBED BY: Dimitrije Kostic (martyr@fearfactory.com) DATE: Unknown ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Used with permission from www.fearfactory.com. TUNING: tune all strings down a perfect fourth (B,E,A,D,F#,B) This seems to be Fear Factory's most popular song. Fortunately for any novice guitarists out there, it's also (in my humble opinion) among the easier of Fear Factory's sometimes arduous songs. This song contains little of the wrist-wrenching trill-picking that Dino used earlier, on "Soul of a New Machine." The verse riff sounds very heavy and demanding on the recording, but when you begin this song you will find that a large part of its sound is the drumming. A very probable trouble spot for many players (particularly newer ones) may be found in this chord change... B |-------| F# |-------| D |-------| A |-6--7--| E |-7--7--| (figure 1) B |-4--5--| To play this chord change smoothly requires that we break a rule of guitar playing. Consider how this change differs from this one... B |-------| F# |-------| D |-------| A |-------| E |-7--7--| (figure 2) B |-4--5--| To play the figure 2 change, you would keep your pinkie finger locked on the seventh fret of the E string, use your index finger to fret the 4th fret of the B string, and your middle finger to fret the 5th fret of the B string. However, to keep your pinkie on the seventh fret of the E string in figure 1 would be very difficult; what finger would you use to play the notes on the A string? So, instead, I suggest that you begin figure one by putting your index finger on the fourth fret of the B string, your ring finger on the seventh fret of the E string, and your middle finger on the sixth fret of the A string. Then, to switch to the next chord, keep your ring finger where it is, slide your first finger up to the fifth fret, and place your pinkie finger down on the seventh fret of the A string. This, I believe is the easiest and smoothest way. There is little else to say about this song other than most of what you will need to know to play it can probably be easier learned through trial and error than through me. Enjoy! Note: Major thanks are in order to Rich Broadhead ferris@saturn.superlink.net for pointing out the painfully obvious screw-ups in the previous really fucked version of this tab.
