* Home-made. Not available in stores…so don't go lookin' for it!
Well, Joss Stone takes a 4th week at No. 1 on the TrackList with "You Had Me", while Tina Arena's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2 keeps a sturdy grip on the top of the albums list. Arena also earns the "Biggest Mover" honors on the singles chart, bolting 40-23 with "I'm Gone", while simultaneously debuting at No. 46 with "I'm In Trouble", a 2004 duet with international recording star Zucchero. Oh! That does remind me of an interesting thing to discuss, but I'll get to that in a sec... Other notable statistics this week include the arrival of not one, but 3 (!) Top 40 debuts, all of which promise to be pretty big hits. First up, at No. 24, is Eminem, with "Just Lose It", from November's Encore. Nine places down, at No. 33, comes Geri Halliwell, with her new single, "Ride It". It totally kicks ass. Finally, at No. 39, we see the entry of the first single from Shania Twain's Greatest Hits collection, "Party For Two", which features Mark McGrath on the pop version and Billy Currington on the country edit. And...I'm done with the chart facts. Yay!
So…that interesting thing to discuss? Well, a mere week after crafting Arena's Greatest Hits, Vol. 2, I learn that in October, in Australia, Sony will be releasing…a hits package (the first official one), entitled Greatest Hits 1994-2004. But that's not all! On it will be two new songs and a new remix of "Dare You To Be Happy". Exciting, eh? Well, I thought so. The "Italian Love Song" single hits stores the same day (which is looking to be Oct. 11). So, if the 2 new songs chart before the end of 2004 (the other one is "Take Me Apart"), Arena will have had four charting singles this year, making for a pretty nice comeback. As if the grand, and surprising, success of the 3-year-old "I'm Gone" weren't enough...
It's the reason I got into Aimee Mann. It's responsible for my deep affection for the work of Paul Thomas Anderson. It's my favorite film of the '90s, and my third favorite movie of all time (behind 1972's The Godfather and 2004's Kill Bill-Vol.2). It's…Magnolia (1999). I FINALLY got the DVD Saturday, after years of waiting. I happened upon it in a used DVD store and almost did a happy dance. A mere fourteen dollars was all it took to buy it (list is about $23), and I watched it that night...and was up 'til 5 a.m. with both the film and the special features. Maaaan, I love it...and now, I finally have it on DVD! This must be what heaven feels like... :)
