And
Now A Word…from Brandon
"Jayson" Ulman |
|
|
So.
A few surprises this week. Not only do the Beastie Boys blast on to the singles chart at No. 9 (in the highest debut
since last December), but the biggest jump comes from…Hanson, who bound 47-19. Meanwhile, down
on the albums chart, some new blood finally shakes things up. Mindy Smith and Jem enter at No.'s 1 and 2,
respectively, having been the first store-bought CD's to work their way into
my collection since the end of March. And, interestingly, I bought Smith's
disc instead of the new Allison Moorer I had originally planned on picking up, with three reasons in
mind: 1) I've been dying to have Smith since January, 2) I love her new video
for "Come To Jesus" (which sneaks on to the TrackList at No. 39)
and 3) I was mucho disappointed by Moorer's last effort, the so-so Miss Fortune (though her live album did
rock). And Smith beats Jem for just one reason: One
Moment More is the first album I've listened to from
beginning to end in one sitting in a long, long time. So, will Jem take over next week? And can Miss Moorer see
a return to these lists before the end of May? Stay tuned. + |

Quote of the week: “I've
seen the pictures...It's f**king torture,” Jon
Stewart, on The Daily Show, responding to a clip of Donald Rumsfeld quibbling that the
treatment of the Iraqi prisoners was "abuse" and that he wouldn't
even address the "torture word." |
