Musical Resumé

I started to play music, when I was 18 years old: first, as a drummer in a Modern Jazz Quintet, later, as a vibraphonist and percussionist in various 'New Music' and Free-Jazz experiments. In 1973, I discovered the music of  American composer Morton Subotnick and was drawn to his unique musical style. Later that year, I bought an EMS-AKS analog synthesizer and founded a music production studio (Synthese) with the aim to promote electronic music synthesis in Belgium. This was the beginning of a long journey of musical discoveries, still lasting to this day.

Music education: private studies with Belgian composers Karel Goeyvaerts , Paul-Baudouin Michel  and American composer Morton Subotnick.

Music composition: composed several musical scores for Films and Theatre, as well as an album (Igloo # 003).

Concerts and events: performed several concerts of electronic music in Cultural Centers and Art Galleries in Belgium (Cultural Center ' Le Botanique' in Brussels, 'International Cultural Center' in Antwerp, Art Gallery' De Zwarte Panther', Art Gallery' Cintrik' in Antwerp and Art Gallery 'Campo Santo' in Ghent) as well as in Holland (Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Geertekerk in Utrecht, for the Gaudeamus Foundation). I also coordinated the 'International Electronic Music Festival' (1980) and 'International Electronic Music and Video Arts Festival' (1981), in Brussels (Belgium) and performed a Concert.

I.R.C.A.M (Institut de Recherche Acoustique-Musique), Paris (France): studied with David Wessel , Steve Mc Adams, Stanley Haynes and Marc Battier . During my stay, I did a research project on digital formants synthesis on a VAX PDP-11 using , MUSIC 10, MUSIC4A and CHANT softwares (This project was commissioned by the Belgian Ministry of Cultural Affairs, in 1980).

Centre Culturel Americain, Paris (France) : conducted weekly workshops on analog modular synthesis.

Centre Culturel Belge (La Maison Belge), Paris (France): performed a concert of electronic music during 'Belgian composers week'.

C.A.L.A.R.T.S (California Institute for the Arts), Valencia (CA): performed a tape music concert of my works.

U.W.M (University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee) : lectured on the use of 'Ghost Electronics control' in modular synthesis and performed a Concert.

U.W.E.C (University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire): lectured on the State of the Art of computer music at the I.R.C.A.M and in Europe.

M.E.M.E (Midwestern Electronic Music Ensemble) : Co-founder of an analog emusic ensemble consisting of five members (and Serge users ):  Grant Richter , Darwin Grosse (Wisconsin), Michael A. Firman, John Papiewski and myself (Illinois).
