Hi, my name is Lois and I consider it a privilege to be called a child of God. I love the Lord with all my heart and I'm so very grateful to Him for all the things He's done for me.
One of my favorite past-times is listening to good ol' southern gospel music. I grew up on it, so it's always been especially dear to me. Thankfully, it's a love that's never died... quite the opposite, actually. Today, I'm a collector of "classic" southern gospel music LP's (which I do still listen to, by the way). I hope you'll sit back and enjoy your visit here at The Old Country Church (named in honor of my own "little country church" as I was growing up... no, that's not it in the picture... and also because I collect country churches). Consider yourself at home as you read on and enjoy some great southern gospel music! There are lots of links, as well, so go on, get comfy in your "pew" and keep looking ahead. :-) My favorite group ever is The Anchormen. The first time I heard them, it was at a local Flea Market (years ago), while my best friend and I browsed through craft projects there. It was love at first sound! I just HAD to follow the music and see who this was, that was making such a joyful noise. When I finally made it to where they were, I listened as they sang "Second Time Around", "Come On In", "I'm Glorybound", and many others. The excitement in their songs reminded me of my childhood days, and of traveling to those ol' time gospel singings on Saturday nights, where I'd heard this same style of music then. I ended up buying every cassette on their table that day, I was so blessed. One of the tapes, in particular, proved to be an even bigger blessing to me. It was the one which contained all the songs I'd heard them sing that day, entitled "Adoration". While traveling from Myrtle Beach to Spartanburg, SC to visit my Mother (and back) countless times before her passing, I listened to it over and over again on each and every trip. I honestly loved ALL the songs on that tape! Then, when it was time for Jesus to call my Mother on home to be with Him, one of those songs came to mind as I watched her earthly body die. "Beyond The Grave" played faintly in my mind, as the words were so very similar to what was actually happening before me. Surely this was a gift from God, to help me handle the loss of the person I loved most. When I discussed it with my sister, we decided to have them play this song at Mama's funeral... and it was. I've seen my dearest loved one give in to darkest death. A sadness filled the room as she breathed her final breath. She lived a life of pain, but now she'll suffer no more; For to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Beyond the grave there's life everlasting. There we'll live again, to face death's sting no more. No more goodbyes, God will wipe the tears from our eyes. There's no more dying beyond the grave. For years and years I've read about this place called Canaan Land. Let me tell you if I should leave this world by way of death's dark hand I'll be in my brand new body so don't you weep for me; For by the time I take my final breath, I'll be kneeling at Jesus' feet. I first saw them in Conway, SC in the summer of 2000, after hearing several of their songs on the radio over the previous year or so. What a blessing they were LIVE! I've had the pleasure of attending several of their local concerts since that first one, and I must say each time is as big a blessing as the first time -- the only difference being... I know all their songs now. [grin] I'm very blessed to have become Mended Wings' webmaster, as of the end of summer 2002, after their original site was lost. I've really enjoyed working with/for these guys. They're truly a blessing to me!
