Back in Milton, Wisconsin in the year 1997, two 16-year-old boys by the names of Flynn Meyer and Matt Lundgren decided to start a rock band. The two had been playing together for about 3 years when they decided on it. Meyer played drums and Lundgren played guitar. Meyer and Lundgren then asked friends Neal Reed, Andy Chrisinger, and Jason Brown to join. Brown played bass and Reed played second guitar. They then found out that Chrisinger played guitar and moved Reed to just vocals. Later, the group came to a mutual agreement and Brown left the band. Meyer invited friend Adam Greene to practice. The guys all hit it off and a week later, Greene was officially in the band. The next year, Chrisinger quit and they became a four piece band.

They began recording their first album in the summer of 1999. The CD, entitled May The Fun Of You Be Good, was named after a message Reed's little cousin wrote in a birthday card to his grandmother. The CD was released February 24, 2000. The album was written by Reed and Lundgren and recorded and mixed at Mallinsong's Studio in Janesville, Wisconsin. Bill Mallinson and the band produced it.

Unfortunately, the release was bittersweet. A few months later, on April 21, 2000, Good Friday, eighteen year old Matt Lundgren passed away due to the cancer known as Leukemia. Lundgren had been diagnosed with the disease in September of 1998. But no matter how much pain he was in, Lundgren never failed to make people smile by playing the guitar. It was his love and passion. On May The Fun..., there is a song penned by Reed named Summer Rain which Reed wrote for Lundgren. It is an inspirational song that carries a great message and a great memorium of Lundgren.

Before Lundgren died, Meyer had brought up the idea of recruiting Mike Garbe to take over on first guitar with the band. The decision was made by Reed and Greene and a few weeks after Lundgren had passed on, they approached Garbe who gladly accepted the position.

The first major turning point in their career happened on Saturday, July 29, 2000. Metridium was scheduled to open for boyband Youngstown at the Rock County 4-H Fair in Janesville. Around 4,000 people saw that performance, one the band has quoted as their ''best.'' Since then, their CD has completely sold out and they have been recognized almost everywhere they go.

Their new album is scheduled to be released in spring of 2001. The tentative title is Good Friday because Lundgren died on Good Friday. ''Plus, it sounds pretty cool,'' Reed added. They are in the process of writing and recording it now. Says Meyer, ''[the new album] is gonna be f*cking hard core, kinda like our live shows.'' All the guys are very excited and anxious for the release of it.

Now, as I'm sure many of you are thinking, what the hell is Metridium? How did they come up with it? From what I could find, Metridium is some sort of underwater sea anenome. How they came up with it? Flynn was flipping through a thesaurus because he had misspelled a word and stumbled across it. The band Metridium was born.
