Remarkably different variations of information regarding William Tanner, his up-to-three wives and several children, not to mention the fact that most sources list him as dying at the age of 112, lead one to believe that the vital statistics of more than one (perhaps several) people are amalgamated into this one person. The above is my version of the most plausible information, although I believe that there were probably at least two William Tanners and he probably didn't live to be 112 years old.
If Mary Babcock lived to 1659 as most sources list, he would have probably divorced her to marry Elizabeth Colgrove, although there is no known record of such a divorce or mention of bigamy. More likely, this is a classic example of amateur genealogical hodgepodge.
