PEDIGREE

wager2079, 2083

Came 20 MAR 1635 with the Rev. Joseph Hull Company (i.e., "Hull's Colony") with mostly passengers from Somerset, England.

60 William Kinge, aged 40 years.
61 Dorothy, his wife, aged 34 years.
62 Mary Kinge, his daughter, aged 12 years.
63 Katlieryne, his daughter, aged 10 years.
64 William Kinge, his son, aged 8 years.
65 Hanna Kinge, his daughter, aged 6 years.

He was a member of the First church at Salem, but in 1637 joined the Antinomians (Anne Hutchinson's "heresy") and was forced to give up arms to the Salem authorities. Later he, along with his son William, was banished for sheltering the persecuted Quakers. He died while still living at Salem and his widow moved to Southold, Long Island, with some children.

One of his children, Katherine, married John Swezey (a Quaker), who later connects to the Wager family through Mary Swayze (wager65) who we married Ezra Wager (wager64). There is record of a William Hallock who disinherited one of his boys for marrying one of the Quaker daughters of Katherine and converting.

This might all be very important information for piecing together the missing holes in the Wager line. Obviously, they must have all moved to Southold to avoid religious persecution. That was also probably the motive for eventually moving to New Jersey.

Estate of William King of Salem Essex Probate (Salem Quarterly Court Records 3 : 12 mo : 1650 as printed in"The Essex Antiquarian" Vol. VII, p. 26):

"William Kinge dying intestate his widow Dorothie Kinge and his eldest son William (to whom is given two oxen to teach his brothers his trade) are ordered to dispose of the estate to William Kinge, eldest son, double portion, Samuell, second son, aged eighteen years, John, third son, aged thirteen, Mary, his daughter, wife of John Scuddr, Katherine, wife of John Swaysy, his second daughter, Hannah, his third daughter, Mehitable, his fourth daughter, aged fifteen, and Deliverance, his fifth daughter, aged nine. Also, his brother John to serve him (William) seven years, and William to allow his mother Dorothie Kinge two shillings for her son John's service. The two younger daughters Mehitable and Deliverance (under eighteen) Mr. Batter and Sergiant Palfree to divide the portions, etc."
