After the success of 'I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got', Sinead O'Connor seemed a bit directionless. Two years later, she released an album of big-band covers, 'Am I Not Your Girl?', a strange record that was a commercial disappointment. Even worse, the singer suffered a tidal wave of bad publicity when she tore a photo of the Pope on Saturday Night Live, saying "Fight the Real Enemy." During rehearsals for the show, it was in fact NOT going to be a photo of the pope, but that picture was brought out during the live performance of the show. For the next year, O'Connor laid low, out of publicity, recording a new album which was released in the fall of 1994.
