Everyone immediately rushed out of the club to see what had happened. A car had stopped in the middle of the street, an unconscious Jackee lying near it. Kev and AJ went over to see what happened.
“She’s got a pulse, but we need to get her to the hospital” Kev said as he and AJ lifted her gently.
“Wait. Where’s Amy? She has to be here somewhere,” Brian said nervously.
“He’s right. Where could she be?” Kat asked.
“Shit! Get over here. QUICK!” Cate screamed.
They all ran over to see Amy’s lifeless body lying on the ground. There was a lot of blood and she looked worse than Jackee.
“It looks like they were both hit or one of them was pushed out of the way” Nick guessed.
“We need to go. Now” Meg said and they all rushed to the nearest hospital.
A half hour passed and they were waiting for word on both Amy’s and Jackee’s condition.
“This is all my fault. I’m so sorry” Em said, crying.
“Sshh, It’s okay babes. We needed to know the truth. Don’t blame yourself” Meg replied, while giving her a hug.
“If it’s anyone’s fault, it would be me. I’m such a damn idiot. I hurt her and now there’s a chance she might…not…make it” Brian stuttered, breaking down from the intense pain he was feeling.
AJ suddenly locked eyes with Meg and realized he couldn’t be apart from her any longer. He didn’t want to find himself in the same situation as Brian, knowing the pain would be unbearable. Jackee wasn’t right for him and it’s not like her feelings were actually reasonable.
“Um…excuse me for a second” He said and walked out of the waiting area.
“What’s wrong with him?”
“I’m not sure. I’ll be right back” Meg said and followed.
As soon as Meg walked out, a hand grabbed her arm and pulled her close.
“Alex, please don’t do this”
“My name is AJ and I know you don’t want to hear it, but I need you”
“We broke up so face it. Jackee is your girlfriend”
“Breaking up with you was the worst thing I could have done. I love you Meg, so please say you’ll take me back”
“I do want you back AJ, I just don’t want to rush it like last time”
“I promise just as long as I can give you a kiss”
“Don’t think that would be…” She began to say when he kissed her, something they had both missed while being apart for so long.
“What could be taking so long?” Cate asked impatiently. She was pacing around the waiting room while everyone else sat patiently.
“Cate sweetie, calm down” Ashley reassured.
“I can’t calm down. That’s my best friend in there going through God-knows-what and the half sister that betrayed her. But you know what? Amy loves her too much to be angry. She probably pushed her out of the way and took the blow. So don’t tell me to calm down!” Cate said with tears streaming down her face.
“Any news yet?” Meg asked as her and AJ re-entered.
“No, not yet. Still waiting” Nick replied, as a doctor walked through the door.
“Do you know Jackee and Amy?” He asked.
“Yes, we’re very close friends of theirs” Em said.
“Jackee is doing just fine. She had minor head injuries, which is nothing to worry about. She should be released by tomorrow morning”
“What about Amy?” Brian asked, standing up.
“We presume she was hit by the car from the looks of her injuries. It looks grim and we can’t tell you what will happen in the coming weeks”
“What do you mean ‘coming weeks’? Are you saying she may not make it?” Kat asked worried.
“What I am saying is that she has slipped into a coma. The coma could last weeks, months, even years. If she does make it through this, there could be even worse obstacles for her to face”
“Now what? She can’t be put through any more shit. She’s too damn sweet and caring and this is not what she needs,” Meg said sadly.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t know what else to tell you. You’ll be able to see her in the morning so I suggest you all go home and sleep” He said and left the room.
“I’m not going anywhere,” AJ announced as Meg gave his hand a squeeze.
“I’m staying too,” She said and everyone agreed.
“I need to go see Jackee” Em said after a few silent minutes, “She’s one of my best friends and I should find out what happened”
“I think we should come with you” Meg replied as Kat and Cate nodded.
“Lets go already”
They walked into Jackee’s room and saw that she was wide-awake, uncontrollable tears pouring down her cheeks.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t see it,” She said.
“Jax sweetheart, you have to tell us what exactly happened, okay?” Meg replied.
“Uh-huh. I can do that”
“We’re all here for you and we know you’re afraid for Amy”
“Why are you so nice? Shouldn’t you be mad at me?”
“Right now, that doesn’t matter. It just matters that you and Amy get better soon”
“I guess I’ll start from when we walked out of the club. I tried to reason with her, telling her that I never meant to hurt her or anyone. That I just didn’t know how to make things go right in my life and that she seemed to be the only right I had. She suddenly got this look on her face and screamed for me to get out of the way. I saw the car but I couldn’t move. I was almost frozen to my spot. The last thing I remember is being pushed to the ground and everything going black” She concluded and started to cry once more.
“Like we said before, we’re here for you”
“Thank you so much” Jax replied and they all shared a hug.
Brian was waiting in the waiting room when he just couldn’t stand it anymore. He got up and saw a nurse, so he decided to walk over to her.
“Excuse me nurse?”
“Can I help you, Mr. Littrell?”
“Actually, yes you can. I just want to see a friend of mine and it would mean so much”
“I wish I could, but I have to follow the rules. I am truly sorry that I couldn’t help”
“Thank you anyway. You have to follow the rules to keep your job”
“You really love her don’t you?”
“Yes, and I did the worse possible thing I could do”
“Come with me” She said smiling as Bri eagerly followed.
“Here she is” The nurse responded, opening the door to her room.
“Thanks, it means a lot”
“It’s no problem, Mr. Littrell”
The nurse left and he turned to where she was sleeping. He immediately felt his heart break at just the look of her. Her right arm was broken and tubes were everywhere. All he wanted to do was make the pain go away. He took a seat next to the bed, and grabbed a hold of her hand.
“Amy, it’s Brian. I know I’m probably the last voice you want to hear at the moment, but I can’t help but feel all this pain. I’m sorry I caused you pain as well, because you certainly do not deserve it after the other shit you’ve been through. You need to know that when I kissed Lissa, it didn’t mean anything. You’re my soul mate and I’ll understand if you hate me. Just know that I’m here whenever you need me” He said and gave her hand a light kiss.
He continued to watch her in her deep coma and only prayed that she would wake up. He would be by her side until she did so.
