Chapter 16-Everything Makes Sense

“So let me get this straight; you had a thing on the cruise and didn’t see each other for three years. You meet up again but AJ was engaged. Now that he’s broken it off, you’re gonna try to make things work?” Callie recapped to the two of them.
“Yeah, I think you summed it up” Kristen replied while AJ nodded.
“You’re both messed up and perfect for each other. Don’t let me ruin the fun”
“Well Howie cancelled his trip to Hawaii. I could always call him,” AJ suggested.
“You would do that for me?” She asked excitedly.
“I don’t know. You do like to pick on me during rehearsals and all”
“That’s because you’re always goofing off. Just give me the damn number. I’ll call him my self”
“Chill woman! I got it. Just give me a minute”
“What do you see in him again?” Callie joked to Kristen.
“I have to ask myself that question a lot. Still can’t figure it out” She replied as they both laughed.
“Okay, D isn’t doing anything so he wouldn’t mind going on a date. The thing is, it’s a double date so the both of you need to get ready”
“Yes Alex, we’ll go pretty our selves up just for you two” Kristen said sweetly.
“Now that’s what I’m talking about,” He replied as they just laughed.

“Nick, what should we do? He looks like a bump on a log ever since Amy went back to Philly. The boy is bound to lose his mind” Cate announced as the two sat on the couch.
“Cate, we’re not his parents. He can take care of himself. Trust me”
“I know that. I just think we should do something about it”
“See, that’s where minding our own business comes into play. If he’s miserable, let him be miserable. He’ll eventually cheer up”
“Yes, but until that happens, he’s still gonna be unhappy”
“Did you hear anything I just said?”
“Was I supposed to? We have to help!” She declared.
“Help all you want. I’m staying right here”
“You’re not helping, Carter. This should be a team effort, so c’mon”
“Call someone who cares. I don’t want to interfere”
“That’s a great way to help out your best friend. Keep sitting on the couch and maybe you’ll become a potato” She huffed and got off the couch.
“I’m not a couch potato! I just enjoy my time off,” He replied as she ignored him.

“Okay, why the long face cuz?” Molly asked curiously.
“Nothing that concerns you”
“Knowing you, it has something to do with Kayla. Thinking about the father?”
“Yeah, especially now that he’s back in our lives”
“Why didn’t you tell me? Dude, am I just not important anymore?”
“You live in Jersey. I live in Florida. Why don’t we compare the two?” Amy replied sarcastically.
“So there’s a lot of distance, never stopped ya before”
“I know, but everything is becoming three years ago all over. It’s like I’ve been sucked back in time, yet I’m older and have a child to look after”
“You’re unhappy about this though. That leads me to my next question. He’s back in your life, but he doesn’t know the importance of it, right?”
“Alright, it seems predictable. Telling some guy he’s the father of your two-year-old child isn’t as easy as it used to be. It’s one big mess”
“You know the answer as well as I do. Tell him. You’ll feel one hundred percent better”
“I wish it were that simple, but it’s not”
“If you don’t tell him, something horrible could possibly go wrong”
“I think you actually got through to me. I’m going to get a flight back tonight and tell him right away. Hopefully, he’ll take it well”
“That’s the Amy I know” Molly replied happily.
“Thank you so much. Never thought I’d say it, but it’s the truth”
“Yeah I know. Go get Kayla and leave already” She announced as Amy went upstairs to get packed.

Brian was in his room, trying to think over everything that had happened. He was back with Amy, something he had dreamt of ever since the day he left her. He couldn’t understand why she had got up and left like that though. It was as if she couldn’t stand being here any longer. Like she was hiding something. It was hard enough for her to take care of Kayla on her own, and Brian felt bad. He wished he could help her in some way. Maybe if they became serious about each other, he could legally adopt her.

Something just didn’t seem right though. Neither Josh nor Amy had eyes that blue and it scared him. He wasn’t one to make assumptions, so he was probably just being stupid. Someone was bound to have eyes like that somewhere in one of their families. That or Josh wasn’t Kayla’s father. If that was true, who could it be? A question that could keep him stumped for hours.

“Yo Littrell, your woman just called and said she’d be home by tomorrow morning” Nick said from the living room.
“You serious, Carter?” He asked, opening his door.
“I wouldn’t lie to ya like that, would I?”
“Cate, is she coming back?” He asked, turning to Cate.
“Yes, she just got on a flight so calm down”
“Do you have a picture of Kayla?” He asked suddenly.
“Uh yeah, in my wallet. Why?”
“No reason. I just thought I’d keep something of her near me”
“Trying to get brownie points or something?” Nick asked bluntly.
“NICK! Pay no attention to him. I think it’s sweet” She replied and handed him the picture of Kayla.
“Thanks. She’s such a pretty girl” He pondered aloud and walked back into his room.

“I’m going to tell him soon if she doesn’t” Nick said, once the door was shut.
“Nick, it’s not your story to tell. I have a feeling she’s going to. Just trust me”
“Alright, I trust you. You would be completely honest with me if something like that happened, right?”
“If you would be an understanding boyfriend, of course”
“I love you, Catelyn”
“I love you as well, Nickolas” She replied smiling and gave him a kiss.
