Welcome to the New Music Institute!

"The fundamental obstacle between teacher and student, that causes most beginning students to drop off, is the lack of commonality.
It's like the student is looking through a keyhole into a room and can only see what is shown, but the teacher is standing inside the room
and knows what the student is seeing but only in context with the rest of the room.
Even though the teacher is focusing on what the student sees thru the keyhole, it is difficult to forget the rest of the room.
This creates a gap in approach between the teacher and the student during any given lesson.
What we try do at the NMI is to put the student in a room (of their own musical experience) and let them ask the teacher to explain what they see.
This gives the student and teacher a common ground for the teacher to then begin to give the student a tour of the entire house (of music)."
