SOUNDS

All are in RealAudio. You may download the file, or hear it in streaming audio.  The RealAudio player can be quite easily obtained here. I recommend downloading the realplayer G2, as newer files will be encoded in this format.  streaming is recommended for people with decent internet connections, you don't have to wait that way.

*Important!*: For most people, the download feature doesn't work at all, i think it has something to do with the server which hosts the files. To get around this problem, download the fantastic download manager Getright, a program that will aid with your downloads, as well as resume broken downloads too. PLUS, you will be able to download the sounds on this site. Good? good.

Note: All files are for personal use only, and should not be distributed to anyone else. This is for entertainment only, so don't fall flat on your face. If you like these files, buy some of Radiohead's released material, which are of fair better quality. Requests for recording album songs and b-sides will be rejected. please do not steal these files for use on your own webpage, or i'll just stop updating or providing these files as a service.  thanks.

The Bends (demo version) (download/stream):  With a sparse instrumentation and slowly pumping along, this demo actually sounds like it has more in common with Talk Show Host than the released version.  Even the mood is different; rather than being a sarcastic rocker, this can only be described as depressing and desolate. The difference is as great as Killer Cars and its mogadon counterpart.

Lucky (with Michael Stipe) (download/stream)
E-bow The Letter (with Thom Yorke) (download/stream)
REM frontman Michael Stipe joined Radiohead on stage during their set on the Tibetan Freedom Concert '98 to sing Lucky.  The same concert featured Thom murdering REM's 'Be Mine', but quickly saved his singing reputation by outdoing Patty Smith, IMHO, on backing vocals on 'E-bow The Letter'.

Permanent Daylight (live) (download/stream):  Hmm.  well... interesting.  At least here thom's vocals aren't distorted so you can hear what he's singing.

Bulletproof (download/stream): early acoustic version performed for On The Edge in LA.   Slightly faster, different lyrics... sort of a different chorus... quite nice.

How To Disappear Completely And Never Be Found (download/stream):  A collaboration of sorts between this webpage and Vanessa's bubbly fake as anything... this new song was played live at Toronto's Maple Leaf Gardens on April 12th.  7 minutes into excess.. enjoy.

Sing a Song For You (download/stream): Before breaking into Bones, thom opened with a cover of this Tim Buckley song. Short, sweet, and sung in a cappella, the song barely lasts a minute, but thom's vocals do soar in the song. Somewhat. (hats off to jonmoore for info about the song)

Subterranean Homesick Alien (download/stream): The first time this song was performed live, acoustic on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic show on the day The Bends was released in the US, (yes, it's that old). Thom and Jonny only just figured out the ending in time for the show...Thom's vocals here are much better than those that would eventually grace the album.

Home is so Sad (download/stream): Not a radiohead song, in fact, a Philip Larkin poem that was read by Jonny Greenwood on 1FM early in 1997. Fun for all the family.  read along

Bishop's Robes(live) (download/stream): A live version of a b-side to the Street Spirit single, performed in Stockholm, Sweden, December 1995. Preceded by long intro by Thom.

Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong(live) (download/stream): A lovely near-perfect rendition of the sad/beautiful b-side.

The Bends(live) (download/stream): Spirited live version performed on the 'Later... with Jools Holland' show. Listen out for very cool weird noises by Jonny.

Pop Is Dead(live) (download/stream): A sneer-induced version of this early single performed live at the Astoria. The last chorus has different lyrics too. This concert is available on video.

Black Star(live) (download/stream): Performed at the RPM in Toronto. Strangely, Radiohead leave out the last verse, making the song very short.

Wish You Were Here (download/stream): Those of you who are thinking of buying the rip-off double-cd compilation 'Come Again' for this Sparklehorse/Thom Yorke collaboration may want to think again. Listen to this. Thom Yorke's actual contribution: Doing the backing vocals over the phone and playing with the reception on his TV set. Interesting...

Nothing Touches Me (download/stream)
Phillipa Chicken (download/stream)
Songs from the second demo tape Radiohead recorded as On A Friday. Nothing Touches Me is a cool little punk song (a better 'Inside My Head'), while Philipa Chicken is a hilarious little song. Quality of these songs should be very good, as it's been through some noise filters.  Although you might not notice in these realaudio version :P.
