The
Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC), incorporated in 1897,
is a nonprofit professional organization of approximately 3,800 members,
whose purposes are:
1.
Promoting musical culture.
2.
The pursuit of excellence in the field of music education.
There are sixty branches in the state, and each branch maintains its own schedule of programs and activities as well as participating in statewide projects.

•Southern California Junior Bach Festival offers performance opportunities to encourage further study of the music of J.S. Bach.•Theme Festival presents students and teachers in non-competitive performance.

•Certificate of Merit Program offers a program of steady musical growth for students along with annual performance evaluations and awards[Locate a Music Teacher ][About Our Organization][Officers 2000-2001][Members][Noteworthy News]•Composers Today offers students and teachers of all levels of ability, an opportunity to receive evaluations and recognition for their compositions.
•Adult Seminar Program offers yearly performance evaluations with an opportunity to be screened for performance at the Adult Seminar Recitals at the state convention.
•Continuing Education provides seminars throughout the state and operates a video tape library.
•VOCE opens new channels for expanded opportunities and incentives for teachers and coaches of vocalists, orchestral instrumentalists, chamber music, and ensembles.
•Piano Solo/Concerto Competitions offer competitions in supportive, professional settings, with prizes furnished by the Piano Technician's Guild, and opportunities to perform at the MTAC convention.
•California Plan is an educational program which offers teachers opportunities for continued study and advancement.
