//chapter//\\fourteen\\

At 8:00 sharp, the girls found themselves rudely awoken by the screeching alarm clock on the bedside table. Jenni arose immediately and began getting ready. The others were a tad more reluctant.

"Why are we getting up so early? Who set the alarm clock?" Katie whined as she covered her head with her pillow.

"We have a lot of things to do today!" Jenni cried as she headed for the bathroom to take her morning shower.

"What, Katie? Are you upset that it was the alarm clock that woke you up this morning rather than Bob?" Malory asked, laughing.

"Yes, actually. I am. Stupid alarm clock." Katie mumbled.

Jenica lay down on the bed and said, "You guys. I had the most wonderful dream last night. We were here and so were the Moffatts. We each got together with one of them and kinda had dates with them. I remember it so clearly. It seems like it really happened."

"I had that dream, too!" cried Katie. "I was with Bob. Jen, you were with Clint, and....and....Hey! It did happen didn't it?"

"Duh, you guys. What? You can't even tell the difference between fantasy and reality, anymore? It happened just last night. It shouldn't be that hard to remember." Malory said, shaking her head. "Katie, YOU DID go out with Bob last night. Jenica, YOU DID go out with Clint last night, and I DID go out with.... well, you guys don't need to know."

"That's right, Mal. You were about to tell us what happened with you and Jenni and Scott and Dave last night when Jenni walked in." Katie said. "So....what happened?"

"I guess I could tell you since you didn't get to hear last night." Malory said. "Besides, you guys were about to beat me up if I didn't tell, right?"

"Yes we were. Don't try it again." Jenica said, raising a tiny fist.

"Awwww. Da widdle Jenica is sooo cute when she's angwy." Malory said, laughing. "Ya know, I could lift you up with one hand and you're trying to threaten me?"

Jenica started to pout and Katie cut in and said, "You couldn't lift me with both hands Mal. If ya know what's good for ya, you'll talk."

"God, Katie. Is violence the only way you know of to solve problems?" Malory teased.

"Hey, it works, doesn't it?" She replied, making a fist.

"Actually, it's quite effective." Malory said, backing away from Katie's fist. "Alright, let's see.... How should I begin? You guys know that it's gonna take me a while to finish this story. I get sidetracked so easily."

"Don't worry. If you get sidetracked, I'll just punch ya and you'll know to get back to the story." Katie said with a grin that creeped it's way across her face.

"Thanks a bunch. That'll help." Malory said sarcastically.

"Just start, already!" Jenica cried.

"Alright, alright." said Malory. "Lets see....

"You guys left in such a hurry that we didn't know exactly what to do. We just kinda stood there, looking at each other. Then, I was like, 'Let's go over to Port Royale.' and they were like, 'ok, sure.' So we went over to Port Royale. We started looking through the stuff in the Disney Store."

"Find anything interesting?" Jenica asked.

"Just the same stuff that's in every other Disney Store across the country. We were looking at these cute little nametag thingies and..."

Katie punched Malory on the arm and said, "Jenica, don't get her sidetracked. Go on, Mal."

Malory flinched and said, "Fine, sheesh! Where was I? Oh yeah! Jenni didn't seem very happy even though Scott was there. I think it was because Dave really seemed to like Jenni. He was kinda flirting with her, but she wasn't really flirting back. I think it made it worse, though, that me and Scott were flirting the whole time."

"Figures, Mal. You are such a slut!" Katie said, laughing.

"I only look like a slut. That doesn't mean I am one, does it? I don't try to be..." Malory started, but Katie cut in again.

"The story?!?!" Katie cried.

"Oh yeah... um........ We were just outside of the building and we were just in view of the calypso bar. Dave and Scott saw their parents at the same time that Jenni and I saw my Dad. We decided to stop by over there. When we got there, we found out that my dad had been talking to their parents for quite a while. He looked over just as me and Jenni walked up with Scott and Dave and his mouth dropped open. He looked at me as if to ask for an explanation. I was like, "Dad. these are the Moffatts, well... two of them, anyway.' Scott and Dave walked over to their dad, Frank, and their step-mom, Sheila. Dad just kinda looked at Frank and Sheila and was like, 'Your band is the Moffatts?' They nodded and dad looked really confused. Apparently, they had told him that their sons were in a band that was touring the country but the conversation hadn't progressed to where he asked the name of the band. He was pretty shocked."

"Well what parent wouldn't be?" Jenica asked. "He brought us down here to go to a concert and finds out that on the first night of the trip, his daughter and her friends have already met the band and they were all hanging out together."

"Yeah, well.....We stayed and talked to their parents for a while and dad kinda settled down. Finally, the guys were like, 'ok, we're gonna go now.' so we left and our parents stayed there and kept talking. Then, Scott and Dave started bickering over the stupidest thing. Dave was saying that we should go get food, and Scott was saying that we should walk around some more first. They actually were arguing about this. Me and Jenni were like, ' We can go get food, and then walk around, or vice versa', but they just couldn't agree on anything."

"Then, to make things worse, me and Jenni started to disagree with each other, surprise, surprise. She agreed with Dave, that we should get food, and I agreed with Scott, that we should walk around first. It was kinda crazy. Our voices were getting kinda loud and I think people were staring at us, trying to figure out what was going on. Either that or they were placing bets on which side would win."

"Finally, Scott jumped in and said, 'Alright, we're not going to agree on this, so we'll just have to compromise. I asked how and he pointed out that Jenni and Dave wanted to go get food, and him and I wanted to walk, so we should just do whatever we wanted. Meaning, Jenni and Dave go eat and him and me go walk. I liked that just fine but I saw this kinda disturbed look come over Jenni's face. I don't think that she felt that she would be completely comfortable all alone with one of the Moffatts. To tell the truth, I was kinda worried about it, too. Before we could say anything, Dave, grinning the whole time, started leading her away to the food court. Jenni and I exchanged glances as we were being led away from one another. I don't have any idea what else happened with Jenni and Dave."

Malory finished her speech and began to sit back in the chair she had sat down in. Katie and Jenica simply sat and stared at her expectantly.

"Why are you guys staring at me like that?" Malory asked.

"What about the rest of the story?" Jenica asked when she realized that Malory hadn't caught on that there was still a lot to be told.

Malory looked at her strangely and said, "What do you mean rest of the story? What did I miss?"

"DUH!" Katie cried. "What happened with you and Scott after you split up with Jenni and Dave?"

"Oh yeah! Duh! Stupid me!" Malory cried, smacking herself lightly on the forehead. "I'm sorry. I kinda got lost there for a second. I forgot that you guys were listening to me tell this and you didn't know what happened. I swear! I am such a blonde sometimes!!!"

"We know, we know!" Jenica sighed. "Just tell us, k?"

"Alright." Malory said, still feeling pretty confused. "Let's see....... Where was I?"

"Um...... Oh yeah! Jenni and Dave had just walked away and Scott and me were just kinda standing there for a minute. I got really self-conscious, then. You guys know that I'm really bad when I'm alone with people that I don't know very well. Well, I mean, I know all the trivial information about him that you can get off the internet, and stuff, but I didn't actually know HIM, ya know?"

"Anyhoo, we weren't talking very much. I think that he was a little self-conscious, too, so I suggested that we go walk like we had been talking about before. We passed the pool and got to that path that goes around the lake. We had three choices in directions. We could go across the bridge, we could go left which would take us over to North Trinidad, where Jenica and Clint went, or we could go right which would take us to the part of the path that is completely engulfed in trees and very secluded. We chose... well, I chose that we go right. He'd never been to the resort before so he left the decision up to me."

"We were walking and the conversation started to pick up. He was asking about where I was from, and about our school, and all that other stuff. Then I was asking about him. How his career was going, what it was like to travel around so much, and what they thought about when they were on stage."

"We were talking and laughing and we finally got to the part of the path that was surrounded by trees. Now, don't think that I'm getting sidetracked, here. I just have to explain about this part of the path that we were on. It's about the length of a football field and it has lots of curves. Actually, It's not really a path, It's more like a bridge without water under it. It goes about 3 feet off the ground and it's all wooden planks. About every ten feet, or so, there are these little lights down by your feet so that you aren't tripping over stuff, ya know? It's pretty cool, and really secluded. There are these benches and I suggested that we sit down for a while. He agreed and we just sat there talking for the longest time. I knew that it was getting late and that I had to be back to the room by midnight, but I just couldn't bring myself to leave. I was telling him all about you guys too, but you don't have to worry, it was all good stuff. We talked about pets, travel, friends, family, music, etc. Then, both of us checked our watches at the same time. We laughed and he offered to walk me back to the room since it was kinda close to midnight. I thanked him and we started to walk back."

"We got here really quick. I thought we were walking slowly but when I was with him, time seemed to speed up. We got to the door and I really didn't want to walk inside. Then he said, 'Um... do you consider this a date?' I was like, 'I don't know. Do you?' and he said, 'Maybe...' "

"We both kinda blushed and looked at the ground. Then I leaned towards him and kissed him on the cheek. I think that it really surprised him because he kinda jumped. I quickly opened the door, and went inside, but not before I turned, staring at the ground, and said goodnight. I don't even know how he really reacted to the kiss because I was too afraid to look him in the face to find out. I hope I didn't, like, freak him out or anything. And I hope that he wasn't mad that I took off so fast. I was sorta embarrassed, ya know?"

"Believe me," Katie assured Malory, "We know all about that."

"Now all we gotta do is get Jenni's story." Jenica said.

"Oh, come on, Jen! Do you really think that Jenni wants to tell us every detail about her date with Dave? You know how secretive she is!" Malory said, finally rising from her chair.

"Well, maybe she will." Jenica replied indignantly, as she too rose from the bed she had been sitting on.

"Well, I guess we'll find out, AS SOON AS SHE GETS HER ASS OUT OF THE BATHROOM!" Katie cried, pounding on the bathroom door.

A muffled, "JACK OFF!" was heard from inside in a cheery voice.

"So what do you guys think that she has planned for us?" Jenica asked as she dug through her mess of a suitcase to find the baby blue tank top and denim shorts that she was planning to wear.

"Like I said, I guess we'll find out as soon as she gets her ass out of the bathroom." Katie replied.

Jenni finally emerged from the bathroom, followed by a cloud of steam from the hot shower she had taken. She took a glance at the clock and hurriedly began to get ready.

Jenica approached her and asked, "So Jenni, how was your night?"

"You guys had better get ready in a hurry. We have somewhere to be at nine thirty and it's already quarter 'til. You have forty-five minutes." Jenni said, dodging Jenica's question completely.

"Does my dad know that we have somewhere to be at nine thirty?" Malory asked.

Jenni nodded and replied, "Yeah, I asked him last night. Well, actually, Dave asked him and he said it was alright."

"Dave asked my dad what, exactly?" Malory probed, trying to get some answers out of Jenni.

Jenni grinned slyly and replied, "You'll see."

Finally, Malory, Jenica, and Katie gave up. It was hopeless to try and get answers out of Jenni when she wanted it to be a secret. They would just have to trust her.
