Judging from the many messages you've sent to us in
the past few hours it seems you're all very
concerned about Melanie.
With several tabloids printing rubbish that she is currently suffering from "severe depression" and
that she told an aide she "just couldn't face it"
when asked why she was cancelling the UK and Ireland
tour dates, Melanie wanted to put up the following message to clear a few things up:
»I just wanted to let my fans know the truth because
you're the important ones. The truth is I've been very
ill over Christmas with that nasty flu that everyone
has had. Sadly, my vocal cords haven't recovered in time
for me to do the UK and Ireland section of the tour.
I'm very upset and disappointed about this but I'm
in no way depressed. Thank you for your kind concern,
I'm just taking it easy for a couple of weeks and then
I'll be out there fighting fit and performing the tour
like you've never seen it before. "Just couldn't face it".....are they mad???«

I saw this cool interview in February's issue of Live&Kicking
and I decided to put it on this site.
So Melanie, do you feel you live your life in a bubble?
Spiceworld can be a bit like a bubble 'cause you have
so many people helping you. But the more I work as me,
Mel C, the more it all becomes less bubble-like.
Does that makes sense? Ha! Ha!
It must have been a shock when you stepped out of the spice bubble to goin'down?
Ha! Ha! Oh yeah! I was a bit naïve when that was released. I was so proud and confident about my music that I assumed everyone would love it and, er, I was wrong! I got a bit of a slap in the face, but that's cool 'cause it just made me work even harder. I appreciate whatever success I get, much more now.
Do you think the spice bubble will ever burst and if so, who will pop it?
I'm not sure there is one any more, to be honest! We've been laid into too good and proper over the last few months, so our bubble's pretty flat now! Ha! Ha!
How much do you think people know the 'real' you?
Well people probably know a fair bit 'cause I'm very honest on TV and in magazine interviews. So I think most people feel they know me quite well. But saying that, I don't think people have a true idea of my whole personality even now.
What's the best rumour you've heard about yourself?
I don't know-they've all been really horrible recently! Ha! Ha! This is a really old one, but I often get linked with boys that I've never even met. Do you remember Jimmy from 911? Yeah, well the papers said that we were dating and I'd never set eyes on him! That was quite funny! Ha! Ha! In fact, I heard he was the one that started that gossip! Ha! Ha! Fair play to him tho'!
Is there anything you wish people knew about you that perhaps they don't already?
There's not really much there hasn't been written about! Ha! Ha! There is stuff I wish people didn't know, like things about my family, but it's too late now. I like to be positive about everything that happens to me, even my problems. So I hope that I can help people get trough their problems by hearing about mine!
If you could do anything without fear of comeback, what would you do to the tabloid newspapers?
Ha! Ha! Well it is tempting but I don't really believe in revenge, because I believe in karma! So they've got it coming to them!
If you started it all again, what would you do differently?
Absolutely nothing 'cause I'm really really happy with where I am now. Everything we've achieved with the Spice Girls is absolutely unbelieveble and I don't think I'd have enough energy to go trough all that again! I've gotta say I'm definitely one of the luckiest people in the world.
When you see new girl bands starting out, do you think, 'glad it's not me!' or do you feel a teeny bit jealouse?
I feel a little bit too old to be working as hard as they do! Ha! Ha! Also I remember when we released Spice and Spiceworld and it was so chaotic we never got to see our friends or family. We were flying all over the world, and while it was a fantastic expirience and really good fun, it was big drain on us and, right now, I think I'd miss everybody way too much.
Are you allowed to say whatever the heck you want?
I think now, 'cause I'm a little bit older, I do tend to say what I like, as you may have seen in the papers recently! Ha! Ha! But it's not like I'm outrageous or anything, you do have to be conscious of who's gonna hear what you have to say. It's like when you're at school, you speak differently to the teacher than you do your friends.
Is that the same way with the other spice girls then?
Yeah, I don't want to upset the girls 'cause I love them, they're like my family. So sometimes I wouldn't be as brutal and as honest as I would be myself. You have to always think about those around you.
So finally, if you decided to pack it all in tomorrow, what'd you miss the most?
Everything, I really, really would. I'd miss making and performing music, coming on TV, I'd miss singing and meeting people.. oh everything! I wouldn't miss the tablid press at all though, but I think I'd miss talking to L&K the most!L&K Tour News (25-01-2001)
Melanie is extremely upset to announce that she has been forced to postpone her forthcoming UK and Ireland tour dates due to start on 28 January.
She has been suffering from a throat problem lately and the doctor has advised her not to tour if she is to avoid more serious damage.
These shows will be rescheduled for May this year and all tickets held will remain valid, so please hold on to them. If you would prefer a full refund please contact the box office where you purchased them originally.
