She was one of five girls who, together, would go on to become some of the most famous women on earth.
During their reign, Spice Girls have sold over 40 million records.
The album is called Northern Star and has already spawned five hit singles -
"Going Down", "Northern Star", "Never Be The Same Again" with Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, I Turn To you and If That Were Me.
Her other solo project was a duet with Bryan Adams called "When You’re Gone".
When the Spice Girls finally booked themselves some time off
(they’d only between seven and ten days off in the last three years),
Mel took advantage of the situation and immediately decamped to Los Angeles to begin recording the solo album
that had lived in her mind and her dreams for the past five years.
Mel has always been a huge fan of Madonna, Hole and Garbage.
She loves The Cardigans, Oasis and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
She is a busy women at the moment.
Not only is she doing her solo project and planning a tour,
she has also been in the studio recording new material with the Spice Girls.
Being a huge football fan, Melanie was due to perform before the England v Romania game at Euro 2000
but because of safety fears and problems with getting her band into the stadium
it had to be called off at the last minute.
She was due to perform her single "I Turn To You".
July 1st is Girl Power Day and marks the anniversary of the release of Wannabe in 1996.
