Barnstormer singers are accepted without audition in four mens' voices: Tenor 1, Tenor 2, Baritone, and Bass. The oldest singer was 99 and the youngest is in his teens, often the son of a member or a local lad recruited for the week-end. Any local singers are welcome to add their voice to the throng. Of the sixty or so voices at each concert, the majority are at every concert. It is rumoured that half the church choirs of New England lose their lead male voices to Barnstormer week-ends. Barnstormers is a not-for-profit organization and donations are cheerfully accepted. Make checks payable to Barnstormers and mail to: |

Each Barnstormer concert consists of about twenty or so pieces of 3-5 minutes duration, but the concert lineup does not change during the course of a year. Also, the repetoire does not fully change from year-to-year -- about 6 or 7 pieces are removed, 6 or 7 are added from the repetoire list and the 3 or 4 new pieces are put into rehearsal each year. Therefore, the pieces are well-prepared before performance, being rehearsed a year and rehearsed & performed for 3 or 4 years more. Because the group sings in an itinerant fashion, the audience is not bored by the repetition (except our long-suffering companions). The first and last pieces 'Salutation' and 'You'll Never Walk Alone' are always performed with commentary over a hummed section introducing our group and reflecting on all the Barnstormers who have graduated to the celestial chorus, respectively.
Rehearsals are generally held from 7-9pm the Friday before the concert and from 9am-noon+ the morning of the concert. Some years we have a pre-Spring-concert rehearsal week-end AND afternoon reheasals on Friday. |
