Bio Sketch

Gelon was born in North Carolina and raised in New Orleans and on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. He started playing the guitar as a teenager and worked in clubs in the South and mid-West, playing mostly blues and southern rock. After years as a touring club player, he took up formal studies and attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston and the University of Southern Mississippi. While in college, Gelon worked often as a contract guitarist, playing in Big Bands (jazz orchestras) backing artists including Bob Hope, Bobby Vinton, and Pearl Bailey. After graduate work (MA in Music Theory and Composition) and a stint as lecturer and composer in New York, Gelon was awarded a Fulbright Grant for study abroad. He spent a year in Vienna, Austria, where he studied composition with Roman Haubenstock-Ramati at the Hochschule fuer Musik und darstellende Kunst and conducted research on the composers of the 2nd Viennese School (Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg).

Since the early 90's, Gelon has focused more on popular music and the guitar. He has worked with several bands in Europe, including country/rock formations COUNTY LINE and BATON ROUGE as lead guitarist/vocalist, and has performed in clubs and at festivals in Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Solo acoustic shows feature originals and American and British rock covers from the 50's to the present. Gelon lives in the Frankfurt area of Germany and is available for dates in central Europe.
