Concerts

Each year, the Milton Middle School Band Program presents a Winter and Spring concert in the Middle School gymnasium. The Jazz Band performs in the auditorium. Because band is a performing art, the actual performance is extremely important for each musician. Although there are many opportunities for outstanding musical experiences in the band rehearsal itself, nothing can substitute for the actual performance in front of an audience. The excitement prior to a performance, the positive experience of being part of a very successful musical group, and the art of performing musically as a group are only a few of the important aspects of each performance. Band has sometimes been compared to athletics, in that it is a team activity. One of the biggest differences, however, is that in a sports activity like basketball, there is a first string, second string, and even a third string. If a player does not perform up to par, that player is replaced by another player. IN A BAND, EVERY PLAYER IS FIRST STRING! No matter what instrument or part your child plays, and no matter how many players are in that section, he/she is extremely important to the band. All of the other musicians depend on your child in that performance, just as they depend on your child in rehearsal. It is for this reason that all performances are mandatory. Any unexcused absence from a concert will lower that marking period grade. Only extenuating circumstances are excused, and do require WRITTEN NOTIFICATION FROM A PARENT within a couple days of the event.
