This course is designed for students who are college bound and intend to attend a 4-year institution. Emphasis placed on reading various selections from World Literature, as well as writing, speaking and listening, and research elements corresponding to PA standards and PSSA development. The main goals of the course are to expose students to varied genres and cultures through a chronological approach to World Literature, analyze and respond to literature in a meaningful and academic manner, write critically as well as creatively, read and comprehend texts to achieve at or above PSSA proficiency standards, prepare for reading and writing demands of post-high school education, and to complete the Senior Exhibition portion in the FLEX program. Students should have an understanding of advanced grammar and writing skills. Student should be able to independently read a selection and respond to that selection critically through discussion and/or formal writing. Students should be prepared to express themselves through class discussions and individual presentations.
