Hello everyone. My name is Tammy. I've been married for sixteen years to a wonderful man named Joe, and together we have three daughters.
Joe has been a wonderful provider all these years until having to have lung surgery in 2000. After Joe recovered from surgery, he was told he had chronic obstructive pulminary disease. It effects his lungs and makes it difficult for him to breath. Walking short distances makes him fight for air. Joe went back to work, but in 2001, the doctors told him he could no longer work at his job. He applied for other work but employers weren't willing to deal with his health problems. He is 42 years old and every road has led to a dead end. Joe applied for unemployment.
I decided to get a job to help support our family, and work as a care giver to the elderly. Although I am still working, Joe has gone through two extentions on his unemployment benefits, but also applied for social security and disability benefits,realizing he will not beable to work again. Each application for benefits can take up to six months for a determination.
Today,(3-5-03) Joe got his last unemployment check. My income alone won't make ends meet. I feel like I am being torn from every direction..worrying about providing for my husband and children, paying rent, car insurance, utilities,etc. With Joe's unemployment check and my monthly paycheck, we had $979. Rent and one bill got paid. Not wanting to, but trying to help my family, I applied for food stamps two days ago and was able to get those. The intake worker told me to apply temporarily for cash assistance until Joe can get approved for disability. She told me I should get approved. So, I applied yesterday and was denied. We are $14 over the limit. I am scared to death. All I can think about are my daughters and husband and not being able to keep a roof over our heads. I am only one person.
Being a care giver, I am required to have insurance on my car since I transport elderly clients and help them in their homes. I do not have enough money to pay for my insurance which means I won't be able to work in two weeks. I have shut off notices on a couple utilities, and don't have enough money for gas.
Out of desperation, I decided to create this web site, and ask if there is anyone out there who could please find it in their hearts to help my family and I. I don't know what else to do. All I am seeking is help with our car insurance and some gas money so that I may continue to work and accept more clients. Your prayers are also earnestly sought.
